Android has a reputation as an open and accessible platform, especially for developers. That might be why MIT rolled out its App Inventor online tool that lets you use a drag-and-drop palette of widgets to create a fully functional Android app. But according to
Malwarebytes, nefarious elements have latched onto the tool as a way to quickly create malicious Android apps.
Fake Apps for Android
Researchers at Malwarebytes told Security Watch that they ran across several examples of malware apparently built on App Inventor. With it, even a novice malware author can create a Trojanized app—like a fake version of the Dr. Web security app examined by Malwarebytes.
