Windows 7 SP1 - Tried to install the latest update of PlayOn software without success. SFC and SFCFix say I have a corrupt rundll32 but I can't figure out how to correct the situation. There are no errors with any other software operation/updates/ or installations. All Windows updates available are installed.

I've attached the log SFCFix log file along with a portion of the CBS log from SFC in the hopes that someone can help me resolve the problem.

Thank you in advance for any and all suggestions.

Added note: I have extracted the rundll32.exe file from my distribution disk but it did not resolve the issue. SFC still reports it as corrupt.

Hello and welcome to Sysnative!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Thank you for your guidance. I had to compress the cbs.txt file in order to post it.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Open an elevated Command Prompt and run SFC Scan just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor as soon as it fails. You can simply do this by clicking the magnifying glass on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up and attach the LogFile.PML file as well as your CBS.log

The SFC scan did not indicate failure and I was not able to determine the Process Monitor failed so I did not stop the Process Monitor until the sfc scan completed. The logfile is 3.33 GB uncompressed. The zipped log file is 241 MB. Please help me understand what I'm looking for as an indicator that the Process Monitor Fails.

The zipped cbs log file is attached.

If I've not understood and you needed something different please let me know what to look for.

The sfc scan ran to completion without indication of failure and then reported the issue with the rundll32.exe file. I included the CBS file in the previous post but am not sure I can include the Process Monitor log file as the compressed file is 241 MB.

Please advise.

Will do. I've run Chkdsk previously with no errors indicated but will run again followed by the utility ListChkdskResult.exe

Ill post the results in my next reply.

Please do the following: Run SFC Scan and as it is near the end start ProcMon. Afterwards, zip up CBS.log and LogFile.PML and upload them to a file sharing service of your choice and provide the link here.

The dropbox links I posted were for a scan run on 7/7/2018. I reran the scan this morning and there is no error reported. I don't know what happened to resolve this but I consider the problem solved. I do appreciate your time and the excellent assistance you have provided.
