Hey there,

hopefully this is the right subforum, otherwise Mods feel free to move it :-)

I'm looking for a simple Backuptool for my mother.
She got a Lenovo Notebook running Win10.

The Tool should do:

Mandatory:

*Backup personal Folders
*Backup Outlook 2010

Optional:
*Backup Windows

The build-in Backuptool seems having problems when the external drive is not plugged in the whole time or the Drive Letter changed because another usb Stick is already plugged in.

So the best solution would be:

I install the programm and configure it once.
After this point, my mother only plugged in the external drive, open the programm and click one button and the Backup would start.

In case of emergency I could think about two scenarios:
I have to reinstall Win10 and the backupprogramm and start then the restore
or
I could boot from some sort of rescue media and directly start the restore.

Do someone know something like this?

cheers,
Marco

Macrium is what I use at work and home, 15 computers paid and free. I've used it for years with success.

Macrium also has a fix boot function, In the event you add an SSD or replace a HDD and it doesn't have the correct drive letter and wont boot after applying your image, you can boot from your Macrium recovery media and fix that with Macrium's fix boot function.

Also, if you are going to use a tool like File History (which is excellent for its intended purpose of user data backup) you really should assign your backup drive a drive letter way up the alphabet that it will keep.

My two backup drives are identified as X and V, respectively, on all the machines I use them to back up. You then never end up with drive letter conflicts from things like thumb drives.

This is true even if you're using a full system image backup tool. If you're looking for a dirt simple user interface for your Mom I'd recommend EaseUS To Do Backup.
