Locked PC

Greetings, not sure where to post this (I had windows 10 home) I said had because someone decided they were going to "help" they somehow put win 10 pro on this pc and now it's locked. I can't do anything to fix it because it needs administrator password which I don't remember(I always logged on auto) can't boot to safe mode, can't use cmd prompt, can't do system restore,nothing I try will unlock this pc (not even microsoft account). No I don't have a recovery disc( win 10 home was downloaded because I originally had win 7 home) Others have said there are third party tools that I could use but I'm kinda hesitant.I trust you guys here and I appreciate your opinion and help. If there are third party tools (and free or at least trial versions) I'm all ears.And thnx for the help. (My tip of the day don't let anyone on your pc lol) :lolg:

Two other tips: write down any administrator passwords when you set up a PC and learn to make images. If the hard drive dies or your computer gets borked by a well meaning friend, restore with the most recent image.

You can use the media creation tool to download a Win 10 ISO (use the first link in the download section)
Download Windows 10 - MajorGeeks

Since your computer is out of commission, perhaps your friend will download it and create the DVD for you.

I don't run Windows 10 so wait for someone that does to see if this is a good build to use.

You can also use this small exe file

to download an ISO of Win 7 home if you need one.
The ISOs are useless unless you have a serial number.

Greetings, first off thnx for your help, (I don't like xp which is what I'm using and I' m really trying to get win 10 up and going) anyway here's whats going on brought up the utility page in win 10 (CMOS setup utility) brought up boot device configuration > cd/dvd boot priority says 1st drive > [ P1-PLDS DVD+/- RWD ] > options { P1-PLDS DVD=/- RWD Disabled. I am unable to boot from dvd how to I enable this? :banghead:

Can anyone help me out with this BIOS says this action is disabled why? and can I enable it? And yes I contacted Dell without any advice.

Most desktop computers will have a button battery on the motherboard. Disconnecting the power from the computer, then pulling out that battery for about 30 seconds should reset the bios to default settings. This will allow you to boot into a cd/usb drive.

As far as your inability to login to your computer, you can download "MSDaRT 10" (Google for it; Its the first result). MSDaRT is Microsoft Diagnostics and Recovery Toolset and is used by IT Professionals to fix problems with the computer. Burn that to a flash drive with something like rofus or unetbootin or to a cd with imgburn and you will be able to change the password on the computer. If you were using a Microsoft Account, you can just reset the password from Reset your password. If all else fails, you can reinstall windows 10 from Download Windows 10

Laptops will also have this battery, but it is not recommended to open the laptop. I say this because some manufactures design the laptops so only technicians can/should open it. Look up a disassembly guide from ifixit. If you open the laptop, there is a chance you might damage a ribbon cable which will prevent the computer from working at all or from working correctly. (i.e. hard drives, keyboard/mouse, usb ports, other io, such as vga, hdmi, 3.5mm audio ports, etc. may stop working.)

If you don't know what you are doing, don't open your laptop.

If you still aren't able to boot to another drive, then from another computer, you could install easybcd. Read this next part carefully. If you feel you might mess up, do not attempt it.

You want to connect an external hard drive to the computer, then you want to create an MBR for that external hard drive. Creating a Bootable USB

MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT ERASE THE MBR ON THE DRIVE THAT IS RUNNING WINDOWS!! (Usually C:\) IF YOU IGNORE THIS WARNING, YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO BOOT ON THAT COMPUTER EITHER.

Then you can add the bios extender Adding Entries to the drive. Take out the hard drive from the computer you are locked out of, and place this one in its spot. Boot the computer and launch Bios Extender, then switch the hard drives back, insert your cd/usb and boot from it.
