Latency Issue - Mouse, Keyboard and Screen freeze and unfreeze - sound continues

I've been having a latency / freeze - unfreeze problem with my AMD Ryzen 1800X gaming rig since around August. I haven't changed any hardware.

The fault is intermittent - it could happen twice in the same day or not happen at all for a week, or several days. Nothing specific seems to trigger it (i.e. it has happened to me whilst playing League of Legends, using MS Word and Firefox), it just depends.

Symptoms: The screen completely freezes, keyboard and mouse unresponsive (LED effects on keyboard, motherboard etc freeze), however, sound continues (if for example, I am listening to music whilst gaming or watching Netflix, the system freezes, but audio continues as normal). No BSOD appears. The freeze can last for around 30 seconds and then the PC comes back to life, as if nothing has happened (although if I'm gaming, it usually means I'm dead).

I have included the diagnostic files required for posting (apart from the Software Development Toolkit file, as for some reason, I can't get that to work despite following the instructions). In addition, I have included a copy of my LatencyMon log file: storport.sys and dxgkrnl.sys are in the red. Bios is also latest version, F23 from Gigabyte. I have even switched around the RAM chips to different slots (although they are still in correct pairs, in dual channel config). My M.2 and SATA SSDs are configured as AHCI (not Raid). All components in this build are under 2 years old and were brand new at time of construction. Also using Corsair water cooling for CPU H115i Pro.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi adrewcj. :welcome:

Are you sure your ram model is that one?
I found F4-3600C16Q-32GTZR that could be the correct one.
Set high performance in control panel, hardware, power options.
In your BIOS:
- Disable core and turbo performances boost ratios.
- Disable cool and quiet.
- Set your ram speed to 2133.
Reboot and check if those actions helped...

I have x2 G.Skill Trident Z RGB F4-3600C16D-16GTZR 16GB kits (2x 8GB each), so 4 modules in total (32GB with the x4 8GB Modules). Sorry for the inaccurate RAM model info in the original post.

I will try what you've suggested, although the AMD Cool and Quiet option, I don't think that's in my BIOS. I haven't tweaked anything in the BIOS, frequency or voltage wise anyway, but will follow your instructions.

I have also stopped CCleaner from running automatically, as I've heard that can cause some problems, after reading other posts.

Will let you know how things go. Thanks for your help! :thumbsup2:

Hi again.

I'm still having a few problems. I've been seeing how it goes since last weekend.

The RAM speed was already set at 2133 and I found the options for AMD Cool and Quiet and the core boost option in the BIOS, both of which I disabled. I also removed CCleaner, as I mentioned in my last post.

I haven't noticed an actual freeze / unfreeze event of 30 seconds or so since doing this (the original problem), but I do get an occasional audio pop and screen millisecond freeze/unfreeze, especially when gaming in LOL/Fortnite or watching a video on YouTube / Netflix.

Any other ideas? Please let me know if you need more diagnostic data. If not, I'll just wait for the next major windows 10 update and hope for the best I suppose.

Thanks again for your help
