I have a laptop that keeps waking up after closing it to sleep, significantly draining the battery when I open it later. I can hear the fans and see the power led on, but the screen stays off. Opening it back up goes to the PIN screen sometimes with a failed PIN attempt or some numbers entered. I've tried basic steps such as disabling wake timers in the advanced power plan options. I can provide any other information needed.

You told us nothing about this laptop. All we know is it is a laptop running W10.

Check your power options and make sure it is for a portable device. See this. While this is in response to the poster asking how to keep their notebook running, it might help you determine how to keep it from waking.

I would also make sure your notebook is fully updated.

It's an Asus TP550LD that I got 3-4 years ago. It came with Windows 8.1 and I upgraded to Windows 10 towards the end of when they were promoting the free upgrade. Right now it is running version 1803 build 17134.345. I recently upgraded to these drivers (not including the BIOS), although the issue was present before this. It has an i7 4500u, 8GB ram, 1TB hdd and geforce 820m. I can provide more info, but I'm not sure what you need to diagnose this type of issue. I believe the "portable/laptop" setting under power schemes, mentioned in the site you linked, is specific to Windows XP.

FTR, I would never download and install drivers from a 3rd party site. Instead, I always go to the makers site.

I realize that link was for a different OS. Sorry, I was in a hurry to find something specifically for W10 and was just hoping the verbiage would be similar to help you find the solution.

In Power Options for W10, there are options for what happens when the lid is closed. Also, do you have any USB devices connected? You might unplug those.

1. Click on Start menu
2. Type in command
3. Right click on Command Prompt in list and select Run as Administrator
4. Copy and Paste the following command into the command console and hit Enter
Code:
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed > 0 & notepad 0

Copy and paste the notepad results to your reply
