Hello,

I was trying to enter into save mode via Shift + Restart > boot options > Trouble Shoot > etc., etc.

When I get to selecting page with save mode option (press keyboard numbers 1-9, or F1 - F9) … the keyboard does NOT work.
The keyboard (Azio) works fine otherwise.

I cannot even get out of there and have to hold the power button for 5 seconds to end everything and restart.

I researched but could not find an answer.
Some tried to change keyboard or UDB port-to no avail..??

I'm aware how to get into save mode via msconfig > boot > minimal … but I would like to have my machine run

as it supposed to.

Win10 Pro, 64 bit, latest version 1903, all clean and uptodate, works otherwise fine.

Thanks in advance

Why do you need to enter Safe Mode? Are you experiencing any particular issues with your system?

Yes - I was trying to enter Save Mode because SFC could not fix issues … wanted to see if it would work in Save Mode.
However - what does it matter? Entering commands with your keyboard, as it supposed to at this page, should be working, right?
It does not!
I did not personally change to another keyboard. I just read about it. Others with the same problem tried and it did nothing.
My keyboard is wired.
SFC issues are fixed via DISM - all good … but keyboard problem persists!

(btw: my system at work (almoast identical, but Windows keyboard) does not have that problem)

Does anyone have any helpful suggestions?

Thanks

Please run the following command in Command Prompt:

Code:
sfc /scannow

Just want to ensure that any system corruption has been fixed.

What kind of port are you using for your keyboard? Is it USB?

Okay, could you please post what motherboard or brand your computer is?

As @Digerati mentioned, are you able to access your BIOS settings? If so, have you checked your USB controller settings?

Mother board: Gigabyte
It's a custom built for high efficiency photo editing.
- Can yu please describe how to access Bios settings
- How to check USB controller settings?

All driver are updated though

… I'm off to work now and will
check later and will let you know
I'll also bring another keyboard (USB)

Thanks

- Can yu please describe how to access Bios settings
It will be in your Gigabyte manual but generally, within the first few seconds of the boot process after powering on the computer, you press a key when prompted to enter the BIOS Setup Menu. This prompt only appears for a couple seconds then the boot process moves on so you have to pay attention. On most motherboards, and my Gigabyte motherboard, it is the Del (or Delete) key. Other common keys are the F1 or F2 key.

If you can navigate around the BIOS Setup Menu, that means your basic hardware functions are working fine. If you can't, it is not uncommon for this to be a USB issue and not really a keyboard issue. In the BIOS Setup Menu, your system is using only the very basic hardware drivers found in the BIOS firmware. In Safe Mode, they might be some additional basic drivers loaded that Windows knows natively. But any special drivers will not be loaded.

Make sure you are using a USB 2.0 port and not a 3.0. While no mandatory standard, typically USB 3.0 ports are blue. Your motherboard manual will again show you which ones, and will have a recommended USB port for your keyboard. While USB by definition is supposed to be "universal", some compatibility issues are not uncommon - at least until full drivers are installed which only happens after the OS has fully booted.

Thanks Digerati,
I will check all this out later since I'm not at my machine now.
- Yes - Gigabyte Bios key - it says at the bottom …
- I will try other USB ports for the keyboard (not blue ones)(not sure what the color is now) …
… there are also red ones..??
(I had this problem with my Wacom Tablet - did not work but another port fixed it - but I think I moved ther keyboard because of it)

- since the keyboard works fine otherwise … is it correct to assume that the USB port is ok for it?

I will get back to report what I find out

Thanks

The blue ones are likely to be USB 3.0, but please check your motherboard manual to confirm this.

Please try a different USB port which is USB 2.0 as suggested above, the keyboard could possibly not be compatible with other ports.

OK-I'm back on my machine
- I connected to another USB port (no color) ...no change
- I tries another keyboard … no change

with both I cannot access Bios, not with F1, F12 or Delete ...nothing works
and of course startup setting neither

so no reaction of the keyboard(s) when not in normal mode / at start up

BUT BOTH WORK FINE OTHERWISW / IN WINDOWS - AS I type this

….????

PS:
first - all of a sudden keyboard went totally dead
I could only sign in again with on screen keyboard
unplug and re-plug = no beep sound
then I plugged the keyboard back to the old port and the beep came..and it worked
now I can access F12 boot menue or Delete=Bios ...but … now I getthe nessage
after a fe minutes: Device ia not recognized … even though the keyboard works

sorry about the multiple posts but I have to update:

- as described above switching keyboards did not do anything
- also as above, switching ports didn't do anything

But here is the weird stuff:
- After switching ports all of a sudden neither of the keyboards did recognized anymore - no beep when plugging in or out
so now I can't sign in anymore but managed with onscreen keyboard

- then I plugged the original keyboard back in the original port (red) and it was back!!
and now all the functions are working (enter bios-delete / enter boot menu-F12 / enter Save Mode = all the keyboard commands / arrow up and down etc. before Windows
... and of course normal typing in Windows

So - logically … something in the computer (at startup/before windows??) acts erratically …???

I hope this description triggers some suggestions with ouy tech guys

Thanks

So the keyboard is working fine in Safe Mode now? You likely have a faulty USB port or compatibility issues between the USB interface and the keyboard driver. Do you know which USB version the red port(s) are/is? USB 2.0?

I'm also thinking wherever the keyboard driver has proper PnP support. Could you please provide exact details of the keyboard that you're using?

Thanks BlueRobot,
the keyboard is:
AZiO Levetron L70 Led Backlit Gaming Keyboard (KB501)

but don't forget that the other (Microsoft) keyboard I took home didn't work either / and than worked again
Am I wrong to suspect some fault in the computer (as you mentioned above) rather than the keyboard.

As I mentioned - this happened before a year or so before - suddenly nothing - a lot of un / re plugging - and it was back

again: same keyboard / same port - first not working (at boot/save mode/etc) … in no port … now working

Thanks, could you please confirm that this is the keyboard? L70

On their support page, it states that no particular drivers are required and the generic ones will work.

This keyboard/mouse uses generic HID drivers already on your operating system and doesn’t require any specialized drivers.

Support Page - L70 – AZIOCORP

Could you please open Device Manager and then check that the Keyboards node and the USB Controllers node is not displaying any warning triangles? If so, please right-click and select Properties and post what the message says.

Please use steps 1-5 of the below tutorial for guidance:

Identifying Problem Devices (Windows XP / 7 / Vista)

I suspect that Windows is having difficulty noticing that a device has inserted into the USB port. From what you have said, it doesn't seem that the issue lies with the keyboard, but rather with that particular USB port or with the Windows installation.

Could you please follow steps 1-3 of these posting instructions - Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions - Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7 + Vista

The log collector tool will collect all the necessary diagnostics logs which will make understanding the issue much easier.

Thank's BlueRobot, for your reply
The keyboard is Azio L70.
I don't have any problems with it escept the ones it this threat.
- accessing one of the pre-windows keybard commands, as e.g." F12" or "Delete" (Bios) - not working.
The other keyboard I tried (Microsoft) … made no difference / same problem.
Changing ports did not change anything as well (plain color / red color) … then followed by a complete black-out … no keyboard functions at all
… then to be followed, after re-start (and sign-in with on-screen-keyb.) … and the old keyboard back to the initial port, ...
… it's all good again, even the initial problem.
But … I get a message : "device not acknowledged"....
...I'm not sure how to explain it better … it sounds strange … but please keep investigating and i'l gladly provide info as good as I can.

PS: no triangle in device manager anywhere

thanks
