Hi,

We are experiencing issues installing the latest cumulative update for Windows:
2023-11 Cumulative Update for Microsoft server operating system version 21H2 for x64-based Systems - KB 5032198.

We are running the Windows Server 2022 version 21H2.
The update returns the following error:

Installation Failure: Windows failed to install the following update with error 0x8024200B: Security Update for Windows (KB5032198).

===========
Taken steps:
===========

We've taken the following steps to try to resolve this:

  1. Manually install prior updates first using the Update Catalog. (The prior updates which were having issues installing alongside this update have been installed using this method).
  2. Manually install the update using the Update Catalog.
  3. Ran DISM, it did not find any corruption to resolve.
  4. Ran SFC, no issues were detected.
  5. Reset the SoftwareDistribution & Catroot folder.
  6. Update the Drivers.
  7. Updated the firmware on IDRAC.

I've followed the forum post and attached the required CBS.zip and ComponentScanner.txt.

Looking forward to a reply, thanks!

Kind regards, Support SQ.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Hi,

Thanks for your last fix. Running the SFCCFix and installing the update seems to have resolved the issue.
The update has installed without any problems.

Thanks again for all of your help, this topic can get closed.
