Hello,

I'm getting repeating issues with Windows Updates on my Dell Laptop. Relative fresh Windows 10 Home 22H2 64bit. I had the same issues in past on my old installation of Windows. I'm getting errors 0x80070003 and 0x80070005. Windows is installing updates, restarts and undoing changes in a loop.

SFC /scannow - no issues.

Appreciate your help.

Hi,

Upload the setupapi.dev.log file
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\INF folder.
  • Right-click on the file setupapi.dev.log and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

I couldn't run sfc /scanow - there was a system repair pending. I had to restart Windows - and one of the recent updates

It seems there are some permissions issues to create a hardlink for that *.inf file for some reason?

I would suggest to attempt to update first, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs and a copy of setupapi.dev.log.

It seems there are some permissions issues to create a hardlink for that *.inf file for some reason?
Usually I don't change any permissions. The only thing I had to change was a manual change of permissions for BaseFilteringEngine in registry as I couldn't install my F-Secure Client.
I would suggest to attempt to update first, if it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs and a copy of setupapi.dev.log.
There is no updates pending at the moment. The update KB5026361 which was failing doesn't appear after installation of Cumulative Update KB5027215.

Can I reply in this thread If anything will fail in near future?

Maxstar - thank you for your help and your time!

Can I reply in this thread If anything will fail in near future?

Please start always a new thread, and provide the files after folowing the Windows Update Posting Instructions: Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions
