KB5013942(cumulative update) starts to download and then install then ask for a restart as normal. Then on the restart I get a msg saying "We couldn't complete the updates" and it rolls back and does a clean up and goes back to my desktop via restart. Then it starts to download again. Now this happen 5 times already on this Quad-core Acer with 12 GB ram, 1 TB drive version 21H2, Win 10 Home 64 Bit. Installed from Media Creators Tool 5 months ago.

So I ignore it and then I get the restart message again and again and again. Everything else is up to date. Did a Superantispyware scan, Windows Security scan, Dism restore health, Sfc /scannow and still getting the same thing which is the update, the restart and then the fail message.

Went to Microsoft catalog and did it separately and still getting the same thing over and over.

Had another computer in my office fail these both just one time. Anyhow, any clues? I do have O&Oshutup 10 on the computer. I am going to reset this back to factory settings and do the update again and see what happens.

Ok, guess what. Got the same message after turning off O&O shutup 10. Ok I have tried over 8 things to fix this problem including Troubleshooter and turning off and on Windows Update in Services. Any clues?

I see that other people have trouble with the KB5013942 update. I tried the SFCFix and it said it did not find any errors. I did a Chkdsk C: /f /r . I have now tried about 8 different ways to troubleshoot this problem. I think I am going to give up. I have been messing with this for three days now. I am going to leave my Windows Update at "retry" and see what happens.

Could you please provide your setupapi.dev.log? It should be available in the following directory:

Rich (BB code):
%systemroot%\Inf\setupapi.dev.log

That's a 712 page log document. I don't know if I want to give that out if you know what I mean. Putin may be asking about this.

It's just the driver installation log, it doesn't contain any personal information and it is essential for being to able to troubleshoot your issue.

So every day that I start this computer the update continues to download this update, restarting fails the completion of the update and I get the message about couldn't complete this update. When I look at the Windows Update again it says Retry and I just ignore it. But then after a restart it starts the download again.

So update: I reloaded Windows 10 from the Cloud download and did all the updates including that dreaded KB5013942(cumulative update). So I never figured it out so the two hours that I spent on getting everything new again worked. Thanks for trying.
