Hi,

I've tried to install the follow update, but it fails with a error code: 80073701

After troubleshooting, and researching, I came across this site. I've followed the directions that have been laid out for other users (though careful to not use specific user configs for FRST64), and have slimmed down the CheckSUR.log error total from 845 to only two! The last two are KB3210131 & KB4014565, which are no longer listed on the Microsoft Catalog Update site, and are the ones I need assistance with.

Steps taken:

- Turned Firewall off
- Ran SFC /Scannow: No integrity violations found
- Ran SURT: Checked CBS & CheckSUR logs
- Ran SFCFix: Checked SFCRix.txt
- Re-ran SURT: Checked logs
* Completed and compared SURT & SFCFix multiple times, downloaded and added missing KB....msu to C:\Windows\CheckSur\packages to get from 845 errors to two.

Additional Notes:

KB3210131:
- Not installed
- Not listed on MCU site
- Admin CMD: wusa /uninstall /KB:3210131 = Element not found

KB4014565:
- Not installed
- Not listed on MCU site
- Admin CMD: wusa /uninstall /KB:4014565 = Element not found

If anyone could help, that would be great! Below is the link to the latest CBS folder. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Hello and welcome!

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

 1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
 2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
 3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
 4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
 5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
 6. SFCFix will now process the script.
 7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
 8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

Afterwards, run System Update Readiness Tool again and attach CheckSUR.log for my review.

This is an upgrade related error. Please attempt only updates and not the Windows 10 upgrade.

After we have installed the updates successfully, I will provide instructions regarding the upgrade of the machine should you wish to upgrade it.

Actually, I had previously tried to upgrade, but it failed. I then tried to install any current Windows 7 updates, and those failed. That's when I started the whole process of trying to fix the Windows 7 errors. All I did was run Windows update, I did not try to upgrade it to Windows 10 just now. Please let me know of the next step I should take.

Here you go.

I am leaving for the day, but I am kicking off the install. I will update the CBS.log tomorrow morning. Thank you for your help.

Thanks.

Step#1 - FRST Fix
NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system
1. Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your Desktop.
Note: You need to run the 64-bit Version so please ensure you download that one.
2. Download the attached fixlist.txt and save it to the Desktop.
Note. It's important that both files, FRST64 and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work (in this case...the desktop).
3. Run FRST64 by Right-Clicking on the file and choosing Run as administrator.
4. Press the Fix button just once and wait. If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
5. When finished FRST64 will generate a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post the contents of it in your reply.
6. Reboot the computer and retry installing the update that failed previously.

Well, it said it installed and needed to be rebooted, which I did. When I open Windows Update, the update failed, and says "Windows 10 couldn't be updated. I'm attaching logs.

The update was successful. The upgrade to Windows 10 failed. Please advise on how would you like to proceed.

Would you like to upgrade this machine to Windows 10 or was your goal only to update it?

It is my goal to upgrade the machine. I've already created the Windows 10 installation media. Typically, I have to copy the contents to a folder on the Desktop, then run it from there since the bootable USB always fails. Will this still work or should I go about it a different way?

That's correct. We have to run it from Windows 7.

Please do the following:

SFCFixScript.txt
