[SOLVED] KB4054518 windows update will not install

I cannot figure out why my windows update will not complete.

2017-12 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB4054518)

I have followed the steps of many google searches, uninstalled my antivirus, downloaded the update and tried installing with the msu, performed a chkdsk, windows update fix, and SURT. Nothing has worked. Any help is appreciated.

Also having trouble with KB4480970. Except the msu file installed on this one. Windows update still wants to try and install it though.
 
SFCFix Script

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the attached file, SFCFixScript.txt, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFixScript.txt - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFixScript.txt.
  5. Drag the file SFCFixScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a log should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl+C) and Paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of this into your next post for me to analyse please - put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Retrieve Components Hive
1. Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
2. Please copy this file to your desktop.
Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
3. Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To...Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
4. The file will likely be too large to upload here so please upload to a file sharing service and just provide the link here.
 
Install Update with DISM


  1. Download this update and save to your desktop. The file name will be Windows6.1-KB4034664-x64.cab.zip.
  2. Right-click on this file and select Extract All... Click the Extract button. You can close the folder window that opens
  3. Click on the Start button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  4. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator. Go ahead and allow if you receive the UAC prompt.
  5. Copy and paste the following command into the command prompt window and press enter.

    dism /online /add-package /packagepath:%userprofile%\desktop\Windows6.1-KB4034664-x64.cab
  6. You should receive the message:
    The operation completed successfully.
    Restart Windows to complete this operation. <---You may not get this line.
    Do you want to restart the computer now (Y/N)? <---You may not get this line.

Go ahead and do so if prompted. Let me know what errors if any come up. If you do get errors, please zip/attach your CBS.log
 
I followed those steps and it fixed KB4034664. One item needed repair.

Then I installed the windows update for KB4054518. It worked. Upon restart my computer now makes a very aggressive constant sound. Like the fan is working on overtime or something. I am not sure what piece of hardware is making the sound.
 
Great! For the fan issue, please start a thread in our Hardware section because the experts there may have more of an insight than I do seeing as I am primarily a software expert.
 
SFC File Corruptions

I have just finally fixed some windows update issues. During the process I have found that SFC has found missing files and cannot resolve the issues. Below is a linked report taken from the CBS file.

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.
