Hi all and thanks in advance (from The Netherlands)

When trying to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 I ran into a host of problems.
After some googling around I could trace them back to the KB3022345 update. Actually, I can't perform any upgrade any more.
sfc /scannow reports the windows telemetry corruption.

This I unfruitfully tried:
- the instructions here: The Tech Cookbook – Windows 8 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files
- running:
dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
(reporting everything is fine)
- explicitly uninstalling KB3022345

and after all this, executing again the instructions of The Tech Cookbook – Windows 8 update (KB3022345) causing corrupt files

It turns out that my CBS.zip is too large - I followed the instructions "What to do if your CBS logfiles are too large to upload", but I don't see it as attachment?

Hi Micky :)

The KB3022345 isn't a prerequisite to upgrade to Windows 10. The files SFC reports as corrupt are a false positive. Microsoft is fully aware of the issue and said that they'll address it in an eventual update. Right now, how did you try to upgrade to Windows 10, via the Windows Update? If so, why did the upgrade fail? Any error code or error message?

Hi Aura, thank you for your response.

I use the Media Creation tool for upgrading to Windows 10.

I invariably get a lot of errors in the download phase. This is only annoying but no real problem; if you try hard enough, every now and then the download succeeds. I understand from friends and colleagues that this is an issue that occurs a lot.

In the installation phase, I got the error 0x80070002 - 0x20009 mentioning "The installation failed in the SAFE_OS phase during PREPARE_ROLLBACK operation"
I found this thread and tried also (almost) every suggestion: Windows 10 upgrade cancelling itself, code 80070002 [Solved] - windows 10 - Windows 10
Gradually it became clear that I simply couldn’t get rid of the KB3022345

I also got the error message “Something happened” with the code 0x800706BE - 0x90017. At least Microsoft is honest about the source of the error “We don’t know”.

I had the same kind of error during one of my failed upgrade attempt. Sadly I upgraded by clean installing Windows 8.1 (making my SSD GPT in the process) and unplugging both my hard drives, then the Windows 10 upgrade went throught so I can't say that I have a lot of success in troubleshooting that error.

Do you have more than one hard drive in your computer?

I have a laptop with one SSD and one hard drive.
Perhaps this causes the upgrade to fail?

My current strategy is "wait and see". I hope that Microsoft somehow will fix the problem. I'm anyhow pretty fed up randomly trying all kind of non-solutions. Most probably after my long vacation in September I'll give it another try.

What I would try to do, is to remove the backpanel from your laptop, remove the hard drive and also the CD/DVD player. Once done, I would try to upgrade again.

OK! I'll give it a try as soon as I have enough time to perform the whole procedure relaxedly.

Alright that's good, keep me updated :)
