[SOLVED] KB3000850 incomplete install

Hello all!

Machine: Acer laptop running Win 8.1 (upgraded from 8) 64 bit.

As mSoft moved that KB3000850 upgrade to "important" (and, as I read, won't allow further upgrades if it's not installed), I felt I had to do it.

Web install diden't work (not quite sure now, but the error code could have been 0x80070003), so I downloaded the 711 MB file and the manual install went OK.

After that, re-checking for updates, there were ~ 30 which weren't there before. Most went OK (apart from an IE update, but that's for another thread and anyway I never use that software), but KB3000850 was still there, now pointing to a ~ 60 MB download (some complement, I presume). Tried through the Web, no success; tried to download the offline installer, but the link is still to the old 711 MB file (:mad7:).

Something being amiss on my machine, that's what I tried:
  1. CHKDSK: found two errors (the horror! :eek4:), but seems happy now;
  2. SFC /SCANNOW: completed, but with errors it coulden't repair. Snipped out of the log:
    Code:
    2015-03-15 05:23:30, Info CSI 000008bd [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.17415, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
    2015-03-15 05:23:31, Info CSI 000008bf [SR] Cannot repair member file [l:36{18}]"Amd64\CNBJ2530.DPB" of prncacla.inf, Version = 6.3.9600.17415, pA = PROCESSOR_ARCHITECTURE_AMD64 (9), Culture neutral, VersionScope = 1 nonSxS, PublicKeyToken = {l:8 b:31bf3856ad364e35}, Type = [l:24{12}]"driverUpdate", TypeName neutral, PublicKey neutral in the store, hash mismatch
2015-03-15 05:23:31, Info CSI 000008c0 [SR] This component was referenced by [l:166{83}]"Package_2709_for_KB3000850~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.8.3000850-6825_neutral_GDR"
  3. DISM /ONLINE /CLEANUP-IMAGE /RESTOREHEALTH: goes to the 40% mark, and then nothing much happens;
  4. the SFCFix.exe tool from this site: seems to mostly run DISM, so here too the process hangs at 40% – even letting it run for more than 4 hours (HD activity looks like Windows talking to itself).

Now I have two CBS logs, CBS.log of ~ 10 MB and CBSPersist_….log ~ 120MB. I'd hate to have to upload that, even compressed, with my slow connection.

So I'd be grateful for any suggestion about things I could try.
But don't ditch your free time for that, it's not "mission critical" as I use the laptop mostly for Web surfing… :grin1:

Hello Nick and welcome to the forum :)

Before we start anything I would like to have a look at the chkdsk errors:

Download ListChkdskResult.exe (by SleepyDude) from Here
Double click on it to run it. It will take a few seconds to scan, then it will open a Notepad window with the log. Copy and paste the contents of this into your next post please.

Alex

Thank you so much for your kind help, Go The Power!

As the result of running ListChkdskResult.exe is a bit long, instead of pasting it in the message I uploaded it here: ListChkdskResult
Hope that is OK.

I ran CHKDSK several times because another tool, ioBit's Disk Doctor, still reports some corruption. Presumably we can neglect that (found nothing relevant on their forum).

To be on the safe side I also:
– ran a full scan of the Western Digital drive with the software the manufacturer provides: WD Support / Downloads / Legacy Internal / WD RE2;
– scanned the full C:\ partition where Windows sits for viruses/malwares with Comodo.
Nothing bad was reported.

Thanks again for your help!
OldNick

Results look fine, it is good to hear that the WD results were good as well.

We will now do another SFC scan and run our automated tool to try and get these repaired automatically.

SFC /SCANNOW
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Command prompt (Admin) => Press Yes on the prompt
  3. Inside the Command Prompt windows copy and paste the following command SFC /SCANNOW
  4. Please wait for this to Finish before continuing with rest of the steps.
Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. Press Enter
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  5. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Download and Run SFCFix

Please download and run SFCFix from >Here<

It will take about 15 minutes to process. Once the scan has completed a notepad file will launch with the results. Please copy and paste the entire contents of the results and post them back into this thread. Please put [CODE][/CODE] tags around the log to break up the text.

Thanks again for your kind help!

Here is the CBS.log: View attachment cbs_OldNick_2003.zip

Hi Nick,

Sorry for the delay, I have just returned from my holidays.

Are updates still failing on this machine? If yes please run SFC /SCANNOW again and upload a new CBS log.

Thanks

Hello GTP,

Hope your vacations were splendid!

Here nothing new:
– KB3000850 fails (it's the ~ 60 MB remainder);
– KB3032359 (IE) fails.

Some other, unimportant, updates went OK.

As you suggested, I ran FSC /SCANNOW and here's the log: CBS_140508
Three CbsPersist files of roughly the same size were also generated, if you need them…

Thanks for your help! :thumbsup2:

Hey mate,

Still one issue to fix :)

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.

Now I'm hoping for the best. Thanks, once more, for your kind help!
OldNick

Well, no luck, everything fails in the old manner. (Notice that I killed antivirus & firewall to minimize interference.)

The KB3000850 complement fails at ~ 97% (error code 800F0922), and trying the full downloaded ~ 700 MB installer I get "already installed" (thanks, I know…).

KB3032359 fails with same error code.

So I have a question: following the link of the error code to mSoft support, I see they recommend installing the "updated servicing stack update 2975061" (which I downloaded). Should I do that? I'm a bit weary as it's irreversible.

Thanks for your kind help, once more!
OldNick

Hello again

The error is a bit different, I wouldn't run that fix yet.

Please run Windows Update again, let it fail, then upload the following:

Convert CBS.log to CBS.txt
  1. Right click on the
    aa922834-ed43-40f1-8830-d5507badb56c_39.jpg
    button
  2. Click on Run => Inside the run box copy and paste the following command:
    Code:
    cmd /c copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  3. Press Enter
  4. Once this has completed please go to your Desktop and you will find CBS.txt, please rename this file to CBS_{Insert forum username here}_{insert todays Date here}.txt For example "CBS_Go The Power_1803.txt"
  5. Please upload CBS_{Username}_{Date}.txt to this thread.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to you next post please upload via Dropbox or One Drive

Windows Update Log

  1. Click on the Start button -> Inside the search box copy and paste the following command
    cmd /c copy %windir%\WindowsUpdate.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\WindowsUpdate.txt"
  2. Please go to your desktop and attach WindowsUpdate.txt to your next post

Hello! (Again, yes… :smile9: )

I did as instructed, refraining from trying the fix and trying IE updates (one problem at a time). Other updates went OK.
Log files zipped together:

Hope you'll find the snag. Of course I'm extremely grateful for your continued involvement in my small problem!

Hello Nick,

We have an interesting error here:
