KB3000850 fails now listed as important update

Brian Drab listed this C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4bC:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20

Read your post. I had a kodak printer. Was able to get the first file copied. However, prnekcl2.inf is not on my computer. I looked where you suggested as well as a complete search on computer. Is there a way to get a copy of this file. After copying the first file wiaek002.inf I tried again even though I did not have the prnekcl2.inf. This time kb3000850 went to 9% instead of 8% before failing. I hope you can help. I have not tried a manual dowwnload.

Thank you Myrna

Hello and welcome

Due to the precise nature of your corruption, you will receive help from a user named LiquidTension. He's one of our senior trainees here who's in his final phrase of his studies and needs to gain some real world experience in specific areas of Windows Update. This means that he'll be assisting you, but that I will first need to double check and approve his fixes before he posts them to you. If anything this is a good thing for you because it means that you've got at least two of us watching over your thread, but it will unfortunately add a slight delay between each reply. I hope that you understand and can accept the need for us to train up new members in this way in order to carry on doing what we do here, however, if for any reason you object to this setup, I will happily take on your thread myself.

Thank you very much for your understanding. We'll be with you very shortly.

I would be grateful for the help. I do understand the delays.

Thank you again Brian.

I thought you might want to know this too.

I tried back in April to install an optional update KB3000850. It installed but on but got to 8% and then said could not complete and reverting back to original. It did boot and worked fine. I hid the update because it was optional. Now the same update is showing up as Important. I tried to install it and the same thing happened. However, in update history it lists succeeded. I checked updates again and it was back again. It is not in my Control Panel Windows Updates. I tried it again. Now it lists it as two times succeeded but it did not succeed and is back again on updates. I hid it again.
I found this on the internet. I found one file wiaek002.inf and did get it in and could not find prnekcl12.inf. I tried the update anyway and got to 9% with same results. Here is the information I found about these files. It pertains to all people who owned a Kodak Printer. I had a Kodak Hero 7.1. I no longer have it. In any case, here is a copy off the internet.

My system still had the issue – it got to 8% and then failed. Turns out that my system was having issues because I have the Kodak Hero printer driver installed. If you have a Kodak Hero Printer and have this patch issue this is more than a coincidence. This is your problem with this patch, however; removing this printer does not fix the issue.
You can cut and paste the commands below to do the work for you
.
Execute these commands in an elevated PowerShell or CMD prompt
mkdir C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b
copy C:\Windows\Inf\wiaek002.inf C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\wiaek002.inf_amd64_57f9361b96ceea4b
mkdir C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20
copy prnekcl2.inf C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20

Hi,
I did supply the information you need. Just a question. Is this KB3000850 a file that is preparing for Windows 10 or is it actually for Windows 8.1. Also, many people have had problems after they installed this update. Do you think the things I am doing with you will prevent any problems.
Thank you again.

Hello,

KB3000850 is a cumulative update designed to fix various issues with the Operating System. It is not a prerequisite for upgrading to Windows 10, but I still recommend installing the update once we've resolved the issue preventing installation.

Please do the following:

bMTzsQ3.png
SFCFix Script (.txt)

Warning: This fix is intended for use on this particular machine. Do not use this fix on any other machine; doing so may cause damage to your Operating System. If you are not the original poster and require assistance, please start your own topic.

  • Download View attachment SFCFix.txt and save this file to your Desktop.
  • Close all open windows.
  • SFCFix.exe
    bMTzsQ3.png
    and SFCScript.txt
    aI1XLKB.png
should both be present on your Desktop.
  • Drag the file SFCScript.txt onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  • SFCFix will now process the script. Upon completion, a file (SFCFix.txt) will be created on your Desktop.
  • Copy the contents of the file and paste in your next reply.

I did as you stated above. When I download I have to choose save as to put it on my desktop. I did this. and closed all windows. It only shows SFCFix.txt file. SFCFix.exe is not on the desktop at all.

I did as you stated above. I think the SFCFix.exe download is missing. All that shows up on my desktop is SFCFix.txt I download SFCFix.txt and chose "Save As" to put it on my desktop but it is the only file that shows up. SFCFix.exe does not show up. I think I'm missing that part of the download.

Also thank you for the information on the update. I fully understand. As always I appreciate your help. Also is it ok to delete the files that you have already looked at.

Hello,

You are absolutely correct.

Please download SFCFix.exe and save this file to your Desktop. Then proceed with the instructions in my previous post.
You are welcome to any delete files created/saved to your Desktop so far. :dsmile:

Thank you.

Hi,
Quick question the one file you had me download was called SFCFix.txt on other sites it is called SFCFix.zip. Did I download the correct one. I don't mean to question you. I just want to make sure I give you the correct information. Thank you for your help and understanding.

Also, as I stated before I did have a Kodak Printer Hero 7.1. That has been uninstalled and I now have an HP Printer.
Thanks,

Because I had a Kodak Printer I did try finding this one path before and Inf file but could not. Today I found them.
Just wanted to let you know I did find the file path C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\prnekcl2.inf_amd64_59438dc7ce792b20 and found the Windows Inf file prnekcl2.inf . I did copy the prnekcl2.inf into the above listed directory. That was the one I was missing. Just wanted to let you know. I do not know if this will make any difference. So I am going to follow your instructions further until you tell me what to do next.

Yes, you downloaded the correct file. :dsmile: SFCFix.zip is used when the helper is supplying replacement files. As I only needed you to run a diagnostic directive, providing a ZIP file (.zip) was unnecessary.

Using Windows Explorer, please navigate to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository and create a new folder named prnekcl2.inf_amd64_5d5f2ed31b4e4a9b (ensure you copy and paste the name, leaving no trailing space at the end).

Now navigate to C:\Windows\Inf and copy prnekcl2.inf. Paste this file into the folder you created.

Manually download and run the standalone installer for KB3000850 (link). Let me know if the update installs.

I did post earlier that I was missing this file path but found it after I did the SFCFix. It may have been just my overlooking it but I did find it and put the prnekcl2.inf in it. Here is a link to show you what it looks like. If it looks ok. Let me know and I'll go ahead and try the download. All I had to to was copy the prnekcl2.inf file into that directory. So if this is not correct I don't know how to create a folder like you want. I know how to copy into it but not how to create the folder. Let me know what you want me to do.

Sorry I do see now that it is not the same file. I will try and do as you say. I believe I have done it correctly. I will download the file manually and let you know if it installs.

Thank you for your patience.

Please delete the folder you created in your screenshot. Then create the folder in my instructions (prnekcl2.inf_amd64_5d5f2ed31b4e4a9b), and copy/paste the file (prnekcl2.inf) inside.

Run the installer and let me know if the update installs. :dsmile:
