[SOLVED] KB2919355 - Error code 80070002

I am unable to install the KB update. Windows fails with an simple error saying it was unable to install the update.

I am using Windows 8 Pro with Media Center. All other app and Windows updates are installed. CBS log attached as requested.

I've tried a number of suggested fixes for what appears to be quite a common issue with this update, but none have worked.

Let's get some more information:

Command Prompt

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Right click on :eightstart: and select Command Prompt (Admin).
  2. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following command into it, then press enter

    dir "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\System Tools" /s

  3. Right-click on the Command Prompt window and click Select All, this will invert all of the colours by selecting the text, now press enter. All of this text is now copied.
  4. Paste (Ctrl+V) it into your next post please.

Hello

I had a look and that folder did not exist. I assume because I've re-arranged my start menu in the past. Re-created the directory and the update installed perfectly.
 
Glad to hear it :) Thought it might - but I wasn't sure whether the files or the whole folder was missing.
