Hi everyone:
Thanks for the help in advance and maintaining such an awesome site.
I have a Dell Inspiron 1545 with a Pentium R dual core CPU T4300 @ 2.10 GHz.
Windows Home Premium 64 bit OEM. The security down update for C++ distribution patch
KB2538243 keeps on trying to install and fails every time. I ran the System File Checker 3 times
and attached the last log file as attached. Also ran tweaking windows repair kit version 3.4.2.
This cleaned up a lot of problems with M.M.C. and other Windows updates now loaded successfully
except KB2538243. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

Download and run the System Update Readiness Tool for your version of Windows here: System Update Readiness Tool

This tool will take some time to complete - when it has finished, attach C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log with your reply.

Try installing the update again, when it fails copy C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log to your Desktop, then zip it up and attach it with your reply.

Thanks.

Thanks.
I ran the install for KB2538243 after running SURT and it still failed to install.
The KB2538243 associated with the Visual C++ redistribution add-in using VS-Studio 2010 and it was offered from Microsoft Update download program along with the
VS-STUDIO 2005 Visual C++ redistribution 32 bit version for Vs-Studio 2005 (KB2538242). I tried installing these two many times both independently and simultaneously and they always failed to install. Actually the 32 bit KB2538242 installed every time but was preventing the 64 bit version from instalingl. Finally downloaded the install packages (VCREDIST_X86.EXE and VCREDIST_X64.EXE)
directly from Microsoft and tried to install manually one at a time and KB2538243 failed to install after KB2538242 installed successfully. So it turns out the 32 bit version was using the VCREDIST.MSI file for the 64 bit version. So I had to uninstall the KB2538242 32 Bit version and reinstall it reboot and then try to re-install it again except this time hit repair install instead of install.
Once I did this it pointed to the wrong .MSI package location and had to point it to the visual studio directory to find the correct .MSI file. Once I had the right .MSI file it installed correctly and let me install the
KB2538243 package for visual studio 2010 that I started the thread about.

Thanks for your time and patience

Hi RickZler -

zcomputerwiz had something come up and asked if I could assist. Am I to understand that you were finally able to get them to install and all is good?
