Dear moderator, I got here after attempting to solve the problem in several ways. I got a 0x80070422 error and my WU service on W10 Pro doesn't run any more. I followed your very detailed instructions about the use of SFCFix.exe - I hope to read from you soon. Please help. Thanks so much.

Hi!

Restart Windows in Safe Mode w/networking.

Download Windows Repair (All-in-One) Portable

  • Extract the tweaking.com_windows_repair_aio.zip to c:\Windows\TEMP the zip will extract to a folder called Tweaking.com - Windows Repair
  • Execute the file Repair_Windows.exe from the Tweaking.com - Windows Repair folder, accept the Security warning and the EULA
  • Click the button Jump To Repairs
  • Click the Open Repairs button to access the following screen:
    WindowsRepair.png
  • Click the box All Repairs to uncheck all the boxes
  • Check only the following boxes:
    • 16 - Repair Windows Updates
  • Check the box Restart/Shutdown System When Finished > Restart System
  • Click the Start Repairs button
  • When the system reboots, attempt the update again.

Hi, as I came back from work, I run the portable tool following the instructions kindly provided. Unfortunatelly, at the next reboot nothing happened. In normal mode windows doesn't start the windows update service. Whatever is the update related function I choose from start menu, it simply crashes and closes the window. Now I run in cmd as admin, DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth but it stucks on 87.0%. Any hints? TIA, thanks so much for your kindly help.

ciao

HI, sorry for being late. Here you are. Some updates occurred after the execution of the above tool v.3.6.1. My windows update service is working again and I am able to install app from the store. Good. Although, whatever update settings I launch from the control panel, it ends crashing. I am not able to enter any upadate configs. All cp windows "updates related" closes unexpectedly and immediately. I launched again the tool in safe mode unsuccessfully.
Thanks and greetings.

Hi!

Please check the HDD.

GSmartControl
Follow the instructions below to check your SMART status with GSmartControl:

  • Download the portable version of GSmartControl and save it on your Desktop;
  • Extract the zip file to your Desktop. Open the folder gsmartcontrol-1.1.3-win64 which should be located on your Desktop and double-click gsmartcontrol.exe to launch the program.
  • Identify your drive in the list (if recognized by the tool), and hover your mouse over it.
  • You should see something called: SMART status. It will either read: Enabled, in which case you should do the following:
  • Double-click on it to bring up its window (usually you'll find your drive by its size or its brand name);
  • Go to the Self-Tests tab, then select Extended Self-test in the Test type drop-down list and click on Execute (this test can take a few hours to complete);
  • Once the test is over, the results will be displayed at the bottom of the window. Please copy and paste these results in your next reply or take a screenshot;
  • Also, go in the Attributes tab and if you have any entries highlighted in red or pink, take a screenshot of the GSmartControl window and attach it in your next reply;
  • Please note: If the SMART Status reads: Unsupported, stop and let me know.
