Can you help with the following please, I have run out of ideas other than migrating the server and its roles over to a new server.
System: Windows Server 2019 Standard 1809 - 17763.1577
Domain controller also running several other services
Issue:
I have started a new job and upon auditing the servers, I have identified a server where the Installation of Windows updates have been failing for over a year!
Tested with the September and October Cumulative Update
Updating via windows update, the update installs to 100% and then errors with: 2022-10 Cumulative Update for Windows Server 2019 (1809) for x64-based Systems (KB5018419) - Error 0x8007371b
Event Log - Setup Log: Some events:
Event 3: Windows update "Security Update for Windows (KB5018419)" could not be installed because of error 2147956507 "One or more required members of the transaction are not present." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "C:\Temp\UP Oct 2019 Server\02 October 2022 Update windows10.0-kb5018419-x64_08f6e9eb4e8cb9f7af2b152e6dea624490a60b2d.msu"
Event 3: Package KB5017400 failed to be changed to the Installed state. Status: 0x8007371b.
Event 1015: 0 of 33 instances of system store corruption have been repaired.
Fix attempts:
* Downloaded latest Cumulative update from windows update catalogue
* Cleared Windows Update Cache
* Disabled / uninstalled Antivirus
* SFC /SCANNOW
* Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
* Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /AnalyzeComponetStore OK
* Dism.exe /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup OK
* DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth The Component Store is REpairable
* DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
Tested using the following as /source: ..........
- Another server as source (Same OS version Later Build Version)
- ISO SW_DVD9_Win_Server_STD_CORE_2019_1809.18_64Bit_English_DC_STD_MLF_X22-74330
- ISO SW_DVD9_Win_Server_STD_CORE_2019_1809.7_64Bit_English_DC_STD_MLF_X22-38323
Using index 2 for Windows standard with GUI
* Noticed the error in the Setup event log relating to KB5017400 that is not available on the Windows update Catalogue
- Bit of digging this seems to be .net 3.5 related - KB5017400 (22/09 Servicing Stack Update 1~17763.3460.1.0)
- Removed .net from Roles / Feature
- Fails to re-install as missing components
- Installed using another 2019 server winSXS folder (Later Build than this server) seems to have installed .net again
- Updates still failing
Any help would be much appreciated
