Issue with Windows Update - It seems I have issue with Components hive

Hey guys was wondering if anyone can help me.

I seem to be having an issue with a 2008 r2 server that was recently rebuilt. Windows update is not working and after looking through some posts this seems to be related to a Components hive being empty.

Now I am afraid to reboot this machine since it crashed and had to rebuilt.

Am I screwed? Or what are my options?

SFC /scannow doesn't work says windows resource unavailable.

components in C:\win*\system32\config is 256KB

Hello, unfortunately, in that case your only option is to do a repair install as your COMPONENTS hive is corrupt beyond repair.

Thank you sir. I guess do you have any hints or info into how I can do this without formatting the whole thing?
