Hello!

I've performed migration of Windows 8.1
from HDD to Samsung's SSD using "Samsung data migration".
No issues raised during the process.
After that I've discovered a problem in Search in the Sharm bar:
when choosing, for example, "schedule tasks" or "recovery"
(I suspect the other commands may failed too) I got an error:
"windows can not access the specified device path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to acces the item "

in the header mentioned the path to the disk F (F:\Users\...), but it should point to disk C.

I beleive the issue caused by incorrect "Indexing Options".
I found "Start Menu" there but unable to check where it points.
Tried Rebuild the index - no success.

Screenshots and steps to reproduce the issue below:

Please advise.

That fixed my issue:

1) in Indexing Options: remove all locations
2) in Indexing Options: add the locations which you need.
3) in Indexing Options: delete and rebuild index
4) reboot PC
5) in PC settings: Search and Apps > Clear Search history

Finally, the issue is gone.

Thank you for your suggestion!
I forget to mention that I've already used Index troubleshooter. It has not found any issues.

I made a small progress on the investigation:
As I mentioned before I have cloned HDD to SSD and now OS is running on SSD.
Please note I didn't touch original partitions on HDD and want to leave it "as is" in case of failures of SDD.
The issue occurs once I connect the original HDD back (via USB) to my notebook.

Will glad to see your thoughts how to prevent the such behavior.

The root cause of the issue is confilct of original partition on HDD and cloned one on SSD (I keep connected HDD via USB).
The workaround is to remove the all partitions on HDD including original and create a new one.
After that the issue with Windows search is gone, I'm able to add the needed locations in Indexing options without problems.
Closing this thread.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, I've had a really busy week.

Glad you managed to solve the problem, and thank you for letting us know.

Stephen
