Is there a way to prevent the extension from being automatically created when saving a file with the same name?

For example, if an image file named 00.jpg is saved in the photo folder, and you try to save a GIF file named 00 with the same name as above in the same folder, .jpg is automatically created after the file name.

If there is no image file named 00.jpg, an extension will not be automatically created when saving a gif image.

The above symptom occurs not only in image files but also in files with other extensions.

Is there a way to prevent an extension from being automatically created when saving a file with the same name?

You can remove an extension name, but that won't help. Unfortunately Windows doesn't have the feature that Apple does, which accomplishes what you want. I checked Group Policy and even there I can't find anything so unless you could write a script, it's a no go.

When you say saving, you mean downloading and saving?

Just so I'm understanding:
1. There is already a file called 00.jpg in the folder.
2. You have another file with the name 00.gif (that was originally saved as a gif) and when you try to save it in the same folder, it changes the extension to .jpg?

This happens when you save as and choose gif?

When saving not only GIF but also files with other extensions, if the file name is the same as an already saved file name, the extension is automatically created.

I am Korean.Since this is Korea, there may be a time difference, so comments may be delayed. Please understandI write with a translator.

Even if it is a little inconvenient, I will just use it as is.
Thanks for your comment.

I do understand and it is not a problem. We have people that speak many different languages visit us. I hope I did not offend you in my search for clarity.

What happens when you use "save as" and choose extension? Does it still change to the present extension?

Yes that's right.

I am confused. Windows will not let you save two files with the same name. It will automatically change filename.jpg to filename2.jpg for example, or pop up an error message asking if you want to overwrite the existing file.

The problem with removing or having no extension is then Windows will not know how to open the file next time you try to open it.

I believe the user is referring to File Explorer behaviour when you save a file of a different type but same name of an already existing file in the same directory.

Here's an exercise to do for anyone who needs clarification:
  1. Save a empty .txt file to your Desktop named file. This will be called file.txt.
  2. Open Paint and then use the Save As dialog to save a .jpg file to your Desktop called file. File Explorer will suggest that this .jpg file is named file.txt.
As far as I know, you can't disable this from happening.

Ummm, following your steps above, that is not what happens with me. When I try to save the paint file as file, it saves it as file.jpg. It never suggested .txt.

Again, the OS does not allow two files with the same name in the same folder.

What app are you saving off your images with?
Many apps have a default extension setting but many also allow you to choose other extensions.

이미지저장은 어떤 앱으로 하시나요?
많은 앱에는 기본 확장 설정이 있지만 다른 확장 프로그램을 선택할 수도 있습니다.
