Hello,
I've encountered a very unexpected BSOD on my Alienware 15 laptop, last night. The BSOD first occured when I tried to harmlessly restart my laptop. When I reach the login screen, i'm greeted with two different BSODs (one is more common than the other) The two BSOD's are:
1.IQRL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (The common one)
2.Kernel_Security_Check_Failure
After a bit of research, these two errors happen to be related to Drivers and/or memory. I did update my Nvidia Graphic drivers just yesterday (25/08/2017) and I could successfully shut down and power my laptop in the morning (26/08/2017). I decided to restart my laptop the following evening, and I face these unexpected BSODs. My laptop restarts twice, crashes twice and I find myself in the recovery screen. Iv'e tried a few fixes which i'll gladly tell you, in order:
note:Before restarting, I had opened cmd and typed "netsh winsock reset" to try fix my slow internet
1. Tried to System Restore back 2 days, but was greeting with a "Appxstaging" error.
2. Went into safe mode (Everything was working fine).
3. Rolled back the drivers for my Graphics card (GTX 980M).
4. Used CCleaner to clean some cache and fix broken Registeries.
5. Conducted a Memtest (No problem was detected).
6. Go back into safe mode to rename WindowsApps to WindowsApps.old, to fix the System Restore.
7. Restore my PC to 16/08/2017 (Did not help).
8. While rebooting, it conducted a Startup Check/Repair (Did not help).
9. Did a System Restore to 24/08/2017 (This time from the Recovery Screen) (Did not help).
10. Reinstalled Windows (Keeping my personal files).
note: In between (in safe mode), I did take a peek and BlueScreenViewer (an application to view the Dump files for BSODs) and I noticed that the affected driver was ntoskrnl.exe.
After the reinstall, Windows booted up normally, and everything seemed to be back to normal. I downloaded Chrome, updated Steam, uninstalled Mcafee and went on with my things. I was prompted to restart my PC after uninstalling Mcafee to apply changes, and I did.. And the same problem came up all over again.
System Specs:
Alienware 15 R2
Windows 10 Home Edition
Intel Core i7 6700HQ - 2.6Ghz
16GB DDR4 @2133Mhz
Nvidia Geforce GTX 980M
The laptop is about a year old, and I made sure that I do not clutter it with junk/shady applications. I haven't downloaded a single torrent, or even installed any other program except for a few trusted utilities such as CCleaner, Malwarebytes, Avast, HWMonitor, etc. My laptop is not overheating in anyway, neither is it running slow/sluggish. Everything was just fine, until the restart. I'm kinda panicking and freaking out here.
Thank you so much for your time,
