Hi,

since last windows 7 update i cannot save images as "JPG" anymore in internet explorer 11.
Save picture as option only allows PNG and BMP and offers always the name unknown.*

thanks for assistance

hi,

thanks for your reply.
other brothers do not have this problem.
they can save and download everything.

in fact nothing from your link helps.
we have changed nothing in the settings.
the same problem occurs on 4 computers after the last 2 windows updates.

there is another thing, may be interesting:
as said ie11 proposes only file name: unknown.png

if i save with this name, say just click ok,
i get the error message:
syntax for the file name, folder name or drive name is wrong

may be this helps?

Hi,

thanks for answering.

yes this is all done automaticly when i quit internet-explorer.
but i also did it manually.

saving pictures only works, when the pictures are originally in format png or bmp.

additionally i cannot play videos, stream music, or open pdfs anymore.
we really have not changed anything in setup, also windows updates worked without any errors.

this was all working before.

very annoying, cause we liked to work with internet-explorer.
all other browsers do not have this problem.

we have even tried to reset ie11 to it's initial settings, still no success.

ps.
is there no way to clean uninstall ie11 , download, and do a completely new install?

the same problem occurs on 4 computers after the last 2 windows updates.
Please specify the KB of the two updates that caused IE 11's problems.

I don't use IE but I'll fire it up and see if I have any problems with it.

I went to my start page in IE and used 2 ways to save a portion of the page in jpg. I hit PrintScreen and my program comes up. PrintKey 2000, I select a rectangle area and save it with a name of my choosing. No problem saving it as a jpg. Next I tried the snipping tool and was also able to save something else as a jpg.
I came here, in IE, right clicked my current avatar and selected save picture as jpg and was able to do it.
Do you right click to save pictures or do you use a program? If a program, which one?

I'm off to test playing videos.
No problem playing one of Miss Orchid Girl's videos. I also picked a different video from a different person in the right column and it played with no issues.
I tried this one

Next I tried Spotify to stream music and found out it doesn't support IE. Not wanting to download something I will never use, I'll try and find something else to stream music.
I'm able to stream music from this on IE
Christmas Every Day - Free Internet Radio - Live365

Last I'll try pdf. I generally use Sumatra. It downloads the pdf then I open it and read it.
That worked. I searched for a manual for my phone, got a popup at the bottom asking if I wanted to save or cancel the pdf. I clicked save. Then I got another popup if I wanted to open what was saved. That worked when I clicked to open it. It is also saved on my desktop for later viewing.

My computer is up to date through December. I don't do the Monthly rollups. I manually download and install the Security updates and the monthly Cum. Security update for IE.
I did not install any NET framework updates this month because there were no security issues. The update was "quality" only.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

We have restored our System back with Norton Ghost to our recent Backup before these two updates.
So we have now an internet-explorer working like it should.

thanks all for your help and merry christmas.
