Hi All !
My internet connection drops from time to time. Let's say about 10 times a day.
Afaik wifi is connected when this happens. Don't know for sure.
All I have to do is tapping the WIFI button on my keyboard to put it OFF and back ON. And the internet connection restores itself.

Does anyone have a clue on how to fix thix ?

PS : I already unchecked the box in power management of the wireless network adapter, that says the machine can power off this device to save battery...
PS : i already updated drivers

Are there other computers on your network? Do they lose connection too? It would be good to know if just your computer or if others are affected to. Otherwise, we don't know if the problem is on your computer's end, or the WAP (wireless access point - often integrated within a "wireless router").

Did it used to work fine consistently? If so, did something else change? For example, did you move the WAP? If the WAP device has external antennas, have they changed orientation? Have you tried moving them? Since you mentioned the battery, I assume this is a notebook. Did you move further away from the WAP - perhaps behind additional walls?

Typically there is a wifi connection icon in the System Tray (lower right by clock). This icon typically shows the status of the connection. You might check that next time. It might tell if the adapter is working but not connecting to your network.

If me, I would probably manually remove that network connection, then install it again - just to see what happens.

When it happens my phone, which is also on the modem, is working fine.
There are no walls between the notebook and the modem.
My icon wifi connection has all bars. And when it happens it is still connected to the modem. So wifi is working in my opninion/
I did a troubleshoot now when it happened again and it said that the computer could not access the DNS server.
But as said, other devices are working fine when my laptop has the problem.
Also, I did change my modem a couple of months ago. But in the beginning all was ok. It's only this week that problems occurred.

Thnx for the help !

Hi. . .

Let's take a look at your wifi driver and wifi signal strength.

Download this app; save to Desktop - www.sysnative.com/apps/jcgriff2/netsh_lan_wlan_jcgriff2_.bat

RIGHT-click on the Desktop icon, select "Run as Administrator"

A Notepad will open; it may be in the taskbar.

Save it; upload it and attach to your next post.

Hi. . .

Please see PM.

Your wifi -
Code:
Driver : Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter
Date : 4/11/2018

Go to your system manufacturer's support site and see if a driver update for wifi is available.

I did find these, but not sure if this is your system or not - Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless LAN Driver for Windows 10 (64 bit) - ThinkPad 13 2nd Gen - US

Run msinfo32 - hit WIN button and type msinfo32 - then click on msinfo32 in the list below the search box

Save the file with the default .NFO file extension.

Zip up the file and attach to your next post.

Regards. . .

jcgriff2

p.s. How far away is the laptop from the router?

EDIT: Atheros drivers are very hard to find.

Here is another possibility - Download Qualcomm Atheros wireless driver

My driver is 12.0.0.815 from 04.11.2018 so I guess a more recent one then you suggested, right ? Although this one is more recent : Download Qualcomm Atheros wireless driver
Also, I did update driver to the latest on my machine. So, I guess that's the latest ?
I'm about 4 meters from my modem.

Yes... it does appear that you have a more recent version - 12.0.0.815 v. 12.0.0.468 in the link that I gave you.

Is that your system - "ThinkPad 13 2nd Gen"?

Is there a model number on the bottom of the laptop?

This is my model :

407328 Acer Aspire 5 Pro A517-51P-87GT 17,3" Full HD, i7-8550U, 256GB SSD + 2TB HDD, 12GB

The network SSID that you sent me via PM shows an excellent signal strength -
Code:
    Signal : 100%
Signal : 100%

Can't get much better than that!

I am now even on another wifi modem that is double the distance of the other one. But also on this modem I have internet drops. So it's not modem related or anything to do with my provider.
There's something in my machine that is dropping signal or whatever...

Oh.... msinfo32 is not in English!

I was able to find the network area and obtained the driver name -

Code:
Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 Wireless Network Adapter
[COLOR=rgb(255, 0, 0)]qcamain10x64.sys[/COLOR]        (12.0.0.815, 2,24 MB (2.351.384 bytes), 25/04/2018 0:32)

Have you tried a different DNS provider?

You may also wish to refresh your IP address too.

Open a command prompt, and then the following commands:

Code:
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Acer product support/drivers for your system - Product support

Thank you for the msinfo32 NFO file.

Well, my bright idea of hoping that the manufacturer support site would have an updated wifi driver sure back-fired.

All they have are old, out-dated wifi drivers - Atheros is the first and last items listed -

45901

Keep in mind in the future to buy only those systems with Intel wifi as it is pretty much the only vendor that absolutely keeps on top of driver updates. Intel and Realtek have 2019 updated drivers out for just about all of their Ethernet and wifi devices going back nearly 15 years (when the systems were manufactured).

I have an 11 year old (2008) HP 1020-us Core2Duo system here that has an updated 2019 Intel wifi driver and runs Windows 10 x64. Another system here is a 10 year old (2009) Sony Vaio Core2Duo system with an Atheros wifi and I cannot find drivers for it for Windows 8.1 or W10, so I can only run Windows 7 on it.

What anti-virus are you running?

Do you have a 3rd party firewall installed? (Like one from Norton Internet Security, Kaspersky, etc...).

jcgriff2

p.s. how old is the system? Is it still covered under warranty?

I agree with you.

Perhaps the user profile is somewhat corrupted.

Try using a different user account and then use the system normally and see if the Internet drops out.

Enable and use the Hidden Administrator user account - Enable/ Disable the Hidden Administrator User Account (Windows 10, 8.1, 8, 7, Vista)

Be sure to re-hide the account after testing as you really don't want to use that account continuously.
