After successfully sorting my Windows update problem (thanks to softwaremaniac), I now sometimes am unable to boot from a CD/DVD. (Unsure if the 2 are related or not).

When I insert a Windows 7 Repair disk and boot from it, it tries to display the blue boot window with one option at the top to select which is "Windows Setup [EMS Enabled]".
Only once I have managed to bypass this (by repeatedly hitting the space bar) and get to boot from the CD/DVD. (Note : I can successfully boot from a USB).

An Easus Boot disk I have yet to successfully boot from.

As I said I don't know if the 2 are related but after the windows update, I somehow finished up with a boot screen asking me to select from 2 operating systems. They were both labelled "Windows 7 [Recovered]" but only the 2nd one was the latest. I managed to remove the first, so it automatically boots now into the right system.

Hi. Apologies if I'm a pain. I've created a new Easus boot disk and so far 3 times out of 3 it's booted. Whether there's still a problem or not remains to be seen.

If I need to I'll get back here. I know updating the BIOS can be risky and so far I never have. Thanks again for all your help.

If the CMOS is not properly set up, the computer may ignore or not look at the CD-ROM or DVD as a bootable option. Open CMOS setup and verify your boot sequence settings are properly set to boot from the CD-ROM drive. These settings will be under the boot options. We suggest that you have your boot options setup similar to the example below. If all else fails, make your CD-ROM or ATAPI CD-ROM the first bootable option.
