Hello everyone.

Laptop Spec:

Read More:

my laptop currently have a problem involving AMD driver and Intel display driver. Last night I played World of Tanks with my friend when suddenly the screen went flashing and dark. Then the BSOD appeared saying the driver was unsuccessful to reset the display driver and recover from the timeout. It also said that there's a problem with 'atikmpag.sys' file. After I restarted, the BSOD appeared again.

So i googled and found several nearly same issues and solutions in the forums like windows7/8/10 and in TomsHardware - updating AMD and Intel driver, uninstall and install drivers from AMD site and Lenovo site, replace the 'atikmpag.sys' with the one in the AMD setup folder, but failed. I also reset my Windows (I'm using Windows 10 at that time) and failed. I formatted it with Windows 7 (I don't have Windows10 ISO/DVD) too see if the problem is solved, but failed too (the BSOD with 'atikmpag.sys keeps appearing). Then I formatted my laptop once more and tried to install the Intel and AMD driver one by one, and the Intel driver was installed and worked successfully, but when I installed the AMD driver, BSOD appeared again showing problem the same with 'atikmpag.sys'.

I've tried to install the drivers/use the solutions through the Safe Mode but failed too.

So what does this mean? Is there's something with my graphic card or is it the problem with the software? Any solution would be very, very appreciated. Thanks!

Do you have an ATI video card or Intel?

Dxdiag shows nothing -
Code:
---------------
Display Devices
---------------
          Card name:
       Manufacturer:
          Chip type:
           DAC type:

The ati* driver you mentioned obviously belongs to ATI and not Intel.

Since the driver updates did nothing for you, the next step would be the video card -- it may be bad.

Swap out the video card and see if BSODs continue.

I have ATI as seperate video card (for gaming etc) and Intel as integrate video card. Both ATI and Intel driver were disabled (not by me) when I ran the diagnostics. Could that be the reason Dxdiag shows nothing? I'll try to swap the video card and will post the results here.

I think I have identified the root of this problem which is my GPU was broken. I've sent my laptop to the Lenovo Service Center and they replace the motherboard with the new one since the GPU is permanently attached to the motherboard (cannot swap). I'm lucky for my warranty is still valid because this will surely cost a lot of money since they replaced the entire board.

Thank you very much for letting us know the solution - much appreciated.

I hope that the mobo replacement does in fact fix this problem for you.

Regards. . .

John
