Good Morning,

I have run dism /online /cleanup-image /analyzecomponentstore, dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup and then dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. All completed fine without errors and specify that the restore is complete in the end but i still get the error code when trying to run the latest msu. I have gone ahead and reran sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth. Attaching the requested files.

Thank you for your assistance with this.

Hello, Still struggling with this. Unfortunately, Microsoft has been completely useless and are suggesting i just reinstall windows, which is unfortunately not a tenable option since this is affecting 26 of our machines. Help me, Maxstar....1722369501577.png

Hi,

Upload your COMPONENTS hive.
  • Navigate to C:\Windows\System32\Config and locate the COMPONENTS file.
  • Please copy this file to your desktop.
  • Note: If you receive an error that this file is in-use, simply reboot your computer and try again.
  • Right-click on this file on your desktop and select Send To > Compressed (zipped) folder. This will create a file named COMPONENTS.ZIP on your desktop.
  • If the file is too large to upload here, upload the file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

  • SFCFix will launch, let it complete.
  • Once done, a file will appear on your desktop, called SFCFix.txt.
  • Post the logfile (SFCFix.txt) as attachment in your next reply.

Afterwards attempt to update and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS logs.

Yes, it's the same error but for another component this time, but I'll need to do some more research.

Please attempt to update again with Process Monitor running.

Step#1 - Capture Process Monitor Trace
1. Download and run Process Monitor. Leave this running while you perform the next steps.
2. Try updating the system just like you have in the past.
3. Stop Process Monitor a minute after the updated failes, just to be sure everything is logged. You can simply do this by clicking the capture icon (CTRL +E) on the toolbar as shown below.

4. Select the File menu...Save... and save the file to your desktop. This is likely the default location. The name (unless changed) will be LogFile.PML. This is fine.
5. Zip up the LogFile.PML and upload it to WeTransfer | Send Large Files Fast - Up To 2GB Free and provide the link.
6. Upload also the latest CBS log for the time stamps.

Hi Maxstar. I was able to get the updates installed by using the iso file and just running it like im installing windows. It kept all his files and settings and i see the updates are installed. However, i am still concerned that there is corruption as this isnt the first time around this carousel. I am uploading the component file.

Hi,

So you have performed an in-place-upgrade! And yes this will resolve such issues when a number of RTM keys in the registry and systemfiles are missing. But your latest COMPONENTS hive looks good, and I don't see any possible issues!

If everything is up to date and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth shows no issues, then this system should be fine again.

yes, i guess. but this iso was for 23H2 and his computer was already on 23H2 so i suppose it does an in-place repair/overhaul using the latest ISO. Thank you for your support and assistance here. I will use this method to upgrade the remainder of the failed updates, but i may seek your assistance if there are any leftovers that this is unable to resolve.

Thanks again, Maxstar. Really appreciate the work you all do
