I'm running Windows 10 version 1909 (OS Build 18363.720) and the error occured on each of the following updates: 2020-05 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4556799) 2020-06 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4560960) 2020-07 Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1909 for x64-based Systems (KB4565483) I have tried the obvious things like sfc /scannow, dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth, clearing caches, downloading and install the update manually, etc., but all my attempts over the past few months always resulted in the same error 0x800f0986. I finally followed the steps in the posting instructions, but also sfcfix could not fix it automatically. Please see attached for the relevant logs and thanks a lot for any help - it is much appreciated. Greetings Hanjo Attachments SFCFix.txt 1.1 KB · Views: 2 CBS.zip 7.9 MB · Views: 4

This actually solved the issue, even though I would have preferred to get to the root of this error...
