important and recommended updates not uploaded

Windows Update runs and runs, but important and recommended updates are never downloaded. Windows 7 Pro, Intel Core 2 duo 1.8 GHz, 4 GB RAM, Office 2010 Pro

No error messages appear.

Thank you in advance for your help with this.

Charles:huh:

PS

I've attached files at other sites such as Windows Secrets,
but your instructions for doing this are baffling me.

Please check your instructions. Where is the
select files box? After I've navigated to the desktop and
selected CBS.zip, how do I know if there's a check mark
in the box--the browse box covers up part of the file name.
Is it necessary to click the upload box?

Thanks for looking into this?

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. If you are still in need of assistance, please do the following.

SFC Scan
  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt
  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Brian,

As I mentioned in my original post, there are some problems following the instructions for posting cbs.txt Please tell me how to get around these problems.

I already have the cbs.txt file on desktop. Telling me to how to obtain cbs.txt does not solve my original problems.

Looking forward to hearing how to work around the problems with the instructions.

Charles

It didn't work again. See if the following steps help.

1. Once you pick your file to upload then you should just click Upload. No need to put in an email address.

2. Then on the next page you want to click Copy Link.

3. Then you can come back to your post and right-click and paste the link.

Bingo! That worked. OK, now I need you to follow the steps below again.

It doesn't appear that you are following the instructions or you sent the incorrect file.

You should have a file located here C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

That's what I need.

Good. Now check for Windows Updates and let me know when the list of updates appears. This could take a long time (I've seen up to 8 hours) the very first time we do this since the Windows Update cache will need to be repopulated.

Thanks.

Brian,

Windows Update now has a list of 37 important updates.

I selected "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them;" nevertheless, Programs and Features in Control Panel lists 43 updates it installed on May 2.

Likely because of the issue we were working on.

So at this point is everything good?

Charles

Likely from us running the FixIt from Post#14. This resets parts of Windows Update. It may be best to go back to the option "check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them", switch it to something else and then switch it back to be safe.

Other than that you should be good to go.
