I'm looking for recommendations for a router

I'm constantly losing my wifi signal and having to recycle the power on my old wireless Cisco router, and I'm thinking I should get a new router. I called my cable company last time it happened and they showed no drops with the modem, so the problem is my router. I have a traditional setup with an Arris modem provided by my cable company and a wireless router. I haven't purchased a router in years and don't have any idea what to look for. Are there any brands I should definitely avoid? Any that I should look for?

Thanks in advance for any recommendation.

Budget? Do you want to tinker with the software or just plug and play?
I haven't purchased a router in years, so I don't really don't know what they cost these days. I am more interested in reliability than getting a cheap router. I can tinker, but I would prefer plug-and-play.
