IE9 ABOUT info:
version 9.0.8112.16421
Updates versions 9.0.6 (KB2675157)

Problem:

This IE9 mentioned above is working fine.

I can not update to IE10, ERROR 9c59

I can NOT uninstall IE9

If I download ie9 or 10 manually, they will NOT install.

IE9 is ALSO listed in the OPTIONAL updates section (Wierd hey?)
IE10 is obviously lsited inte the Main update section, which is where I get the error 9c59

I even went as far as uninstalling AV software, and that didn't help either.

IE10 is NOT listesd as installed.

I attached the IE9 and IE10 logs.

I have already cleaned this sytem from virus and malware, as well as CCleaner. I used Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, Hitman Pro, and Avast. Sytem is fast and works great other than the problem mentioned.

Well, your IE9 log says there's a newer version of IE installed, so that log file seems to indicate IE10 was already on the box. It would have been nice to have seen the IE9*.log files from the actual installation of IE9 on the machine, given you say that's where the problem lies.

As to the IE10 log, it says the neutral language .cab file is failing to install due to a signature failure:
Code:
00:57.673: INFO: Installing with the downloaded package. C:\Windows\TEMP\IE1F372.tmp\IE10-neutral.Downloaded.cab
00:57.673: INFO: Launched package installation: C:\Windows\SysNative\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\TEMP\IE1F372.tmp\IE10-neutral.Downloaded.cab /quiet /norestart

The CBS log you provided only goes back to 8/25 at 10AM local time, and this error happened during the midnight hour. If you want help, you'll need to provide the cbs log data that goes back further, or, try again and upload the files *right after* the failed install. This issue *always* comes down to a failure that is logged in the CBS log, so you will *need* to provide one that matches your IE10 install log. I don't understand how you also don't have the IE9 logs from your IE9 install, but those would be useful as well, honestly, if you can find them.

Ultimately, though, something is indeed wrong with your system, and CheckSUR should be run for sure.

Does that CBS.log file come from when I do a SFC /scannow or does Windows just keep it updated? Regardless I zipped the entire file, I made no edits to it. The IE9 and I10 logs that I attached was all that was already there. I have no way of getting anything older. Those logs may have changed as I tried a few times to uninstall and install IE9, which I did so the PROPER way, but of course as mentioned, they failed.

It is my friends son's laptop, so strange things may have been done to it.

I really feel like if I could get IE9 off the machine, then IE10 would install.

Is there a way to recall more of the CBS.LOG?

At the moment, there are a lot of Google hits on this ERROR code I have mentioned in my first message. No one has yet to find a solution, as I went thru 100 searches and readings.

When it gets to a certain size, Windows will zip up the current log and create a new one (in the same location). Given the copies Windows makes will be fairly large, it might be easier just to retry the IE10 installer and upload the log files immediately after.

So you want me to try to install IE 10 again?

Then upload the CBS.LOG at that instance?

Shall I provide any more information? I will do my best, and I really thank you for your time and effort.

OK!

Looks like, according to the CBS log, the failure is actually this:

It is stating that there's a hotfix rollup package for IE that's installed that isn't kosher, and it's marking your store corrupt because of it:
MS12-037: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer: June 12, 2012

Not sure why it's complaining about that old hotfix package, but if you see it on your machine, uninstall it, reboot, and try again. If it fails again, upload the IE10_main.log and the cbs.log file immediately thereafter.

KB2699988 is not listed in updates installed. I did check the view installed updates option in programs and features. I even used the search box as well as looking manually.

So what next?

Oh I also downloaded KB2699988, but when I tried to install it, it said not applicable.

So what next?

IE updates are cumulative, so perhaps you may have to uninstall cumulative updates going backwards to get there - not ideal.

I will take an evening or two to do this, as I get in late from work. I will post when I get time. Darn Microsoft...sheesh...lol

Heh - not sure why it happened, but I'd wager it happened on or around the time IE9 was installed. It's not for sure I know this, of course, but this has been my experience with failed IE10 installs and CBS issues. The IE9 install didn't go quite perfectly, and subsequent updates "break" upgrades (but don't break the current browser - I can't explain it, but that's been pretty typical of IE upgrade failures I've run across over the years).

Hi - I am very interested in the outcome of this as I have exactly the same problems, Win7 64bit, IE9 installed and working but wont uninstall, IE10 wont install. Having checked my logs I see that IE10 install fails because I have no signature on some servicing package files associated with update KB2647516 which isn't listed in my installed updates so I cant uninstall it. I have deleted these files but it hasn't made any difference. Also noted that that was an invalid signature with another couple of files in the Packages folder > Windows- internet Explorer - Top Level - 31bf....etc . The signature on these was timed out, ie they expired in May 2013. Have downloaded the Hotfix KB947821 and run a standalone installer but always the same failed result.
I hope your correspondent finds a solution. I am thinking about exchanging the corrupted files from another working installation if I can get hold of them?
Waiting with interest.
Cheers
Jonboy

I haven't found a solution yet. I really don't have time to uninstall all cumulative updates. Maybe something will pop up from someone in the know. Really Microsoft should keep tabs on Google searches, and they will see that this 9c59 error is common. There is no sense that an update won't install when it knows what in the past did not install right. It should have enough sense to automatically download the past corrupt items and force an install for those items. MS updates in my opinion have just really been out of hand since the beginning.

I hope someone can help us all with this problem.
