Hello,

I'm posting with respect to one of the solutions that you provided to another user. I'm basically having the same problem. I need IE 9, but when my machine came, IE 11 was installed already and now there's just conflict everywhere and I can't install uninstall or reinstall any IE's but IE 11 which will not work for my application.

Also, I keep getting this when I try to open IE8 (the one currently on my machine)

Unfortunately, I'm unable to add the CAB zip file. It just sits there and then stops and nothing is uploaded.

Thanks

Kenny

Dear experts,

I just followed the instructions on uploading the CAB Logs via the script and dropbox. It completed to 100%

I desperately need your help please because if I don't get this resolved, I'll be out of work for 2 days when they reimage my computer with probably the same problem again.

Many thanks!!!

Kenny

Hi and welcome to Sysnative. Sorry for the delay. If you are still in need of assistance, please do the following.

Step#1 - System Update Readiness Tool (SUR)
1. Download and run the following file.
2. When it asks you if you wish to install, please answer yes. Note: It could take 15 minutes or more to run. Please don't cancel.
3. You will get an Installation Complete screen when it's done running.
4. Please attach the log from the following location. C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log
Please Note:: if the file is too big to upload to your next post please upload via a service such as Dropbox or One Drive or SendSpace and just provide the link.

Hi there Brian,

While updates and installs etc are controlled over the network, I managed to finally downgrade to IE8 and it's working. So, while againts work policy, I went ahead and disabled the Windows Update service and disabled the software that pushes updates to the computer. I'm turned windows update back on and ran that tool and here is the log. It's actually very small

Checking System Update Readiness.

Package Version 26.0

Checking Windows Servicing Packages

Checking Package Manifests and Catalogs

Checking Package Watchlist

Checking Component Watchlist

Checking Packages

Checking Component Store

Summary:
Seconds executed: 873
No errors detected

But now I'm wondering if this I should even be asking questions on here as the thing that is forcing updates to my computer is really this software installed and not Windows Update. With Windows update, I can select "Download but decide what to install" and never update IE. But it's the other tool that automatically updates IE to IE11 which is not compatible with the work I need to do.

So, do you think my computer is fine and that the people I really need to talk to is my company's IT department?

Thanks

KEnny

Thanks Brian. After running that tool you told me to download, IE 8 doesn't work any more. how would I uninstall it?

Are you asking how you would uninstall the tool that you ran? There's nothing to uninstall. It doesn't actually install on the system. It just runs and scans the system.

That's what I thought. Not sure what the hell is going on here. But thanks so much for responding.
