IE11 crashes after KB306226 and/or KB3020338 installed

Hi,

Running Windows 7 x64 here.

Internet Explorer 11 crashes immediately if I install Windows Update KB306226 or KB3020338, or both (together or first KB306226 then KB3020338). When I launch IE11, I see the window frame for an instant, then it disappears without an error message. Also, several modules in Asus AI Suite II version 2.01.02 crash when loaded during startup, then the main progam (taksbar icon) crashes too.

Tried uninstalling ASUS AI Suite II and disabling all add-ons in IE11, but that didn't help. IE11 crashes in Safe Mode, too.

Additional information: Various posts on troubleshooting sites indicate that KB306226 changed how a math operation (in VB?) works in order to close a security hole, but it was later found that the fix was bad and caused programs using the math function to crash. KB302338 was supposed to fix the problem.

Does anyone have more information on this? Any suggestion on how to deal with this other than hiding these two updates in Windows Update? Not wild about not closing the security hole but shouldn't have to give up IE to do so.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

For the meantime of troubleshooting purposes can you please either use Chrome or Firefox?

I would like you to install both of these updates and run the following scans, First thing first is I want to check for any obvious corruptions.

Please follow the instructions Here to run the System Update Readiness Tool. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:
C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Thanks for your help. I downloaded and ran SURT as instructed. The results are pasted below. There was only one error, in a registry entry.

Please note that KB3006226 and KB3020338 were not installed when I ran SURT. Also note that I have tried to install the both via Windows Update and via direct download from Microsoft, so I doubt the files are corrupted. Nonetheless, if you want me to install the two updates and then run SURT, let me know.

Can you please install both of these updates, then run SURT? It is not the installers them self that might be corrupt, it might be something which happens after they are on your system which cause the corruptions.

OK. I installed the updates one at a time and ran SURT after each. No errors found. Log files pasted below.
