I have been unable to install IE10 since first released. I an running Win7 64bit. I have been researching the problem recently and discovered someone with a very similar issue on this forum.

Looking at the IE10_main log created after aborted attempts to install this tells me I have some corrupt files associated with an old update KB2647516 but there is no record of this update in my update history so I cannot uninstall this update.

I have run sfc /scannow and this has produced a clear report but after running the SUR tool there are 34 errors which cannot be repaired.

I have attached my zipped CBS folder. Grateful for any help.
Regards
Jonboy

Hello Jonboy, welcome to Sysnative!

If a cumulative update is installed as part of another update, it is listed under that KB number rather than it's own and I believe this is why you can't find any reference of KB2647516 on your computer. This will clear all of your CheckSUR errors:

Windows Update Package Replacement

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Please download the attached file, Packs.zip and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Right-click on the file and select Extract All...
  3. Tick the box labelled Show extracted files when complete then click Extract
  4. A window will open showing two folders, Manifests and Packages
  5. Open the Manifests folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Winsxs\Manifests

  6. Open the Packages folder and copy the files into the following folder (if there are any files)

    C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages

  7. Run the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) again
  8. When the SURT finishes installing, copy (Ctrl + C) and paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of the SURT log into your next post please:

    C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Hi Tom,

Thanks a million for your reply and help. I can't wait to try IE10 install again. Your fixes have cleared my ChechSur errors.

Am I good to go? I will any way! Hope to be able to post the Solved sticker next post.

Thanks again and best wishes - I see you are only 'down the road' from here.

Cheers

Hi Jonboy,

I came very close to going to University at Bristol actually, so the 'road' would have been a lot shorter!

Code:
 Found 31 errors
 Fixed 31 errors

That's what we like to see! You are indeed good to go.

You're most welcome for the help, it's been a pleasure working with you.

We're still a small forum, and have only been around for roughly 18 months, so if any of your family or friends every need help then we would really appreciate you sending them our way and we'll do our best to help them.
