Hello,

Windows Update lists many failed attempts at installing Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. I've been in this failed Windows Update cycle for at least six months now.

The error code is 9C59.

I looked for IE9 in the Control Panel to uninstall it, but it's missing from the list of installed programs. I did find IE9 listed in Windows Update area under "Installed updates," but when I tried to uninstall it there I got a general error message (no code). The "Date Installed" is given as 4/3/2013.

When I look at "Review your update history" in Windows Update, it shows a successful install of IE10 on 4/3/2013, and nothing about IE9. Actually, I seem to have no usable version of IE at all. It launches if forced to by another program, but then crashes.

Help! All I want to do is install a usable version of IE. I don't care if it's IE9 or IE10 at this point.

I followed your instructions to create my CBS zip file. Unfortunately, each time I try to upload it, I get an "Update Failed" message. I even tried using the Basic Uploader option. Could it be the size that is preventing it from loading? It's 9.24 MB.

I'd appreciate any help or guidance you could give. Thank you!

Hi there,

Apologies about the delay.

Could you please upload your CBS file to a free file sharing site such as Dropbox, Skydrive or SendSpace (http://www.sendspace.com/)?

In the mean time, please can you try this fix that has had a fair amount of success with the 9C59 error:

Remove IE10, then reboot:

How to Remove IE10 and Get Back to IE9 on Windows 7

Remove IE9, then reboot:

How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9?

Install IE9, then reboot:

Download Internet Explorer 9 - Microsoft Windows

Install IE10, then reboot:

Download Internet Explorer 10 - Microsoft Windows

Let me know if that is successful

Kind regards,
Stephen

This is the first time I've ever shared a file online. Here's the dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/s/s3m4osd4pf2pzzp/CBS.zip.

I tried the steps you suggested. There is no IE10 in the list of installed updates to remove. I tried to remove an installed update of IE9 dated April 2013, but got an error message saying the uninstall could not be completed (no error number shown).
