Hi!
As I use preferentially Firefox, I don't know when this began, but my IE 10 ( and then 11, after Microsoft update) doesn't display any web page, even if connected to internet and despite Firefox connecting normally.
I ran sfc /scannow and I got the CBS.log file.
I ran the SFCFix.exe uploaded bu Nieimiro and I got the following in SFCFix.txt:

SFCFix version 2.0.2.1 by niemiro.

How can I get beyond this point?

Thanks.

Hi and welcome to Sysnative!

I've put together a fix to repair these corruptions.

SFCFix Script

Warning: this fix is specific to the user in this thread. No one else should follow these instructions as it may cause more harm than good. If you are after assistance, please start a thread of your own.

  1. Download SFCFix.exe (by niemiro) and save this to your Desktop.
  2. Download the file below, SFCFix.zip, and save this to your Desktop. Ensure that this file is named SFCFix.zip - do not rename it.
  3. Save any open documents and close all open windows.
  4. On your Desktop, you should see two files: SFCFix.exe and SFCFix.zip.
  5. Drag the file SFCFix.zip onto the file SFCFix.exe and release it.
  6. SFCFix will now process the script.
  7. Upon completion, a file should be created on your Desktop: SFCFix.txt.
  8. Copy (Ctrl + C) and Paste (Ctrl + V) the contents of this file into your next post for me to analyse please - put

tags around the log to break up the text.

SFC Scan

  1. Click on the Start
    Start%20Orb.jpg
button and in the search box, type Command Prompt
  2. When you see Command Prompt on the list, right-click on it and select Run as administrator
  3. When command prompt opens, copy and paste the following commands into it, press enter after each

    sfc /scannow

Wait for this to finish before you continue

    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log %userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt

  4. This will create a file, cbs.txt on your Desktop. Please attach this to your next post.

Regards,
Stephen

Hi!
Time gives time to solve problems...
I uninstalled a Microsoft update of IE10 and averything works fine.

Great! Thanks for posting an update. Do you remember which update you uninstalled?

It was an upgrade from IE9 to IE10 (64 bits, Windows Seven) which insalled automatically.
From now on, I disabled any automatic upgrade.
By the way: do you think that such an update could have made disappear the possibility to run legacy programs (and get the message "Incompatible Application" from "Troubleshoot compatibility" submenu)?

From now on, I disabled any automatic upgrade.
I have mine set to Download updates but let me choose whether to install them. Then I never install as they day they come out. Instead, I wait a couple days for any fallout.

If me, since you know which update, I would run Windows Update and install that update again and see what happens. It may have just been a one time corruption, or maybe some other update needed to be installed first.

By the way: do you think that such an update could have made disappear the possibility to run legacy programs (and get the message "Incompatible Application" from "Troubleshoot compatibility" submenu)?
I don't know. But I do know as time marches on, more and more legacy programs will become incompatible - not just because of the operating systems, but advances in hardware, and security too. If you have a legacy program that is not supported today, for security reasons alone, it would be better to upgrade the program, or find a current alternative.

Have you much time to lose reinstalling?
I haven't.
Moreover, many prrograms were free but they aren't any longer.
So I'd like a program to overcome these legacy problems.

Have you much time to lose reinstalling?
Not sure I understand the question. It does to take but a few minutes to install updates. And it is likely the update will be to be installed anyway, for security reasons.

I understand there are many programs that were now free, but are no longer. But there are also many that offer free updates to at least a more recent version. It just depends on the individual program.

So I'd like a program to overcome these legacy problems.
Windows 7 XP Mode

Windows 7 XP Mode,YES.
Until when?Until an update will disable (or cripple it).
About security, maybe we have differnt vues..
At any rate, I don't take for good the simple assertion of some producer that it is necessary.

But remember, XP mode is only available with Windows 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise so if a requirement you need to ensure you have the right one. There's no reason to expect an update will disable or cripple it.

That said, Windows 8 uses Client Hyper-V for its virtualization technology and is a similar in function to Windows 7 XP Mode. I do not expect future versions of Windows to explicitly support XP and see no reason why it should. XP is already almost 13 years old and has been superseded 3 times.

About security, maybe we have differnt vues..
It is not my view or opinion - it is a simple, widely published (by non-MS security experts and not "the producer") fact. So it is not a matter of opinion it is a simple fact that IE11 is more security than previous versions of IE, just as W8.1 is more security than previous versions of Windows. Failing to accept that is just failing to accept known facts - whether we like them or not.

Yeah, I played around with that too. I have a client who has custom software for his 2 employee (husband and wife) business that wont run directly under W8. Their office was broken into over the weekend a few weeks ago and everything was stolen or destroyed (fortunately, he had just backed up everything the Friday before, and took the backups home with him instead of leaving them on site). Other than some very minor print format issues with the old software program with some forms, it works great under Oracle VirtualBox. And much faster too than it did on their antique XP systems, so they are actually happy about that.

The only complaint now I get (considering it was -2° this morning) is their new machines with LCD monitors don't crank out the BTUs their old PCs and CRT monitors did. So the wife had to get a space heater! lol

82 degrees here in sunny Fla today :hysterical:

My brother runs XP Pro as a VB guest under Windows 7 Home X64 because he likes the older Card program (Hallmark??) and it doesn't work under Win 7 direct.

It's a balmy 16° now and expecting 4 - 6 inches of the white stuff. At least it is dry and fluffy this time and a leaf blower does the trick! But the roads are vicious. Of course the kids are mad again because it is the weekend and not a school day.
