The Facebook generation is fed up with Facebook.

That's according to a report released Tuesday by the Pew Research Center, which surveyed 802 teens between the ages of 12 and 17 last September to produce a 107-page report on their online habits.

Pew's findings suggest teens' enthusiasm for Facebook is waning, lending credence to concerns, raised by the company's investors and others that the social network may be losing a crucial demographic that has long fueled its success.

Facebook has become a "social burden" for teens, write the authors of the Pew report. "While Facebook is still deeply integrated in teens’ everyday lives, it is sometimes seen as a utility and an obligation rather than an exciting new platform that teens can claim as their own."
How Teens Are Really Using Facebook: It's a 'Social Burden,' Pew Study Finds

"Obligation" seems like an appropriate word here because it's really just a waste of time. You feel like you need to be on Facebook though or you are out of the game because everybody else uses it. Same thing with cellphones, but here we go again, it comes down to greed and money. I didn't even read a few sentences before it talked about the investors. That is disgusting--although, definitely true; it is all about the money. This was never about becoming an "exciting new platform" for others to use, or it was, but very long ago, before people found out that they could make money with it. It should just die... Our future should be focused on innovation for actually useful things, instead of time wasters.

Facebook is a way for others involved, to basically exploit you. There's no more privacy here, and for them to give you privacy controls for your account, when I know for a fact that the FBI uses Facebook to look into certain people and for other things, solely for their own personal gain... I think it's a joke. And of course, I bet you dollars to dimes that their excuse is for "national security." The one lame excuse that they can always go back to, in order to justify doing whatever the heck they want.
