How important is the back of my desktop PC?

I have a HP all-in-one desktop. The back no longer attaches and I'm thinking of just removing it. What purpose does it serve?





It's a piece of rigid plastic that snaps on.

Nothing, other than its just a panel to the case and best left on, otherwise you're potentially going to accidentally damage the components inside or you'll find that the inside will rather quickly fill with dust and other debris.

Not that should be done permanently, but a PC can run without a case as any Tech knows when working on a unit.
