windows vista wuauserv is high in cpu usage all the scans reveals no file corruption from sfc and cbs logs no corruption either.repair windows update with tweaking windows .com and even use fix wu but too no avail, need IT help to correct this situation . Thanks

Good morning Brian thanks for the prompt reply, once i saw that you posted a viable solution to my situation ,i immediately took action and performed the the tasks that were sent to do . Out of the five updates you sent only one applied to my system and i had to go through some loops to get it to download example disk clean up, ccleaner , fix wu, sfc/ scannow, fix sfc ,readiness tool, repair installer by tweaking .com, then the update kb3168965 installed successfully. after that i ran again check for updates and this time it found 9 important and 3 optional. the high svchost.exe wuauserv is over , everything is back to normal thanks to your guidance and teaching. It is a treat working with you and the forum.

Re: high cpu usage wuauserv is the culprit - SOLVED !

Brian, a million thanks for this brilliant advice ! I check Windows Update each day, but my Dell Inspiron Vista laptop suddenly would not find the July 2016 Patch Tuesday updates. Even if left overnight, it was still stubbornly 'Checking for updates' in the morning, with the CPU stuck on 100% usage because of wuauserv. (Presumably this also explained why Windows Defender didn't always run successfully overnight.) I tried everything including winding the laptop back to 6 July using System Restore, and even uninstalling Rapport. I knew it wasn't a memory problem because there's plenty of space left on the C: drive. Strangely, Secunia PSI said everything was 100% up to date but I knew it wasn't because it had missed Patch Tuesday. It's usually very quick to spot old software and missing patches.

I tried your five links and only the first one (KB3168965) was needed.

Having successfully installed KB3168965 it was then happy to download and install all the other Patch Tuesday updates via Windows Update. I was almost about to give up and replace my laptop, so I'm very grateful for your having solved my problem !
