Hello, need help with this recent Chrome issue: -Certain sites like Google Calendar will get stuck Loading with the loading wheel in the tab never stopping and it not letting me add events. -When I try to attach files for uploading on any site or try to download a file, be it email or a website, it takes forever. Sometimes clearing the entire browsing history will get the File Open or Downloads window to show up but I can't do that every single time I need to upload or download something.
Please help. Have run virus and malware scans.

Hi m55

It sounds like Chrome's sluggish upload/download troubles aren't producing error messages of any kind? [If they have produced errors, let us know which errors].

I looked around, and it seems a fair number of Chrome users experienced issues similar to your starting about mid-October of 2015. Some of the tactics they used that proved effective for some of them:
1) Empty the Downloads folder that Chrome is using on your computer (you don't have to delete the data, just move it to another folder & save it that way).
2) If you changed the location of the Downloads folder that Chrome is using, try setting its location back to its default location.
3) Uninstall & reinstall Chrome.
4) Some users tried things using a different account, or simply not "logged in" to their account.

For testing purposes:
1) Try things with a different browser temporarily, to see if only Chrome is having the slowdown issues.
2) Test the speed of your Internet connection with Chrome, and then with another browser.
3) If your usual Internet speed has slowed tremendously, try "power-cycling" your modem/router/gateway device [power off the device - wait one minute - power on the device - wait about five minutes - test for connection speeds].
4) If you Internet connection speeds continue to struggle, call your provider, and have them test the signal strength to your device. And have them remotely test your device as well.

It goes without saying - that saving files requires room, so of course double check that free disk space isn't an issue on the drive where the downloads are stored.

Chrome has a few troubleshooting tips of its own - can't hurt to have a look at them (though most of them are for error-producing scenarios)

Hello,
Thanks. I have previously uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. There are no issues with other web browsers on my computer. In terms of the Downloads folder, I download things in different places so I'm not sure which particular folder would need files moved...do you know?

There is also the issue with it get snagged on some websites where download and uploading are not involved, like Google Calendar. Really stumped by all of this and very frustrating to have to clear my cache every time I need to upload so it will work okay for 5 minutes before getting screwed up again. Thanks in advance.

Strangely enough, the emptying of the Chrome Downloads folder was one of the methods that had the most success. It's just the folder used by Chrome for downloads that you can try emptying. To find out which one that is, enter the Chrome Settings by selecting Chrome's Settings icon (three horizontal lines in the upper right hand corner of Chrome), then select "Show Advanced Settings" ... and scroll down to the Downloads section. The download location is listed there.

You don't have to delete any files, just create another folder in a another location & save them there. What seems to help is that the Downloads folder used by Chrome is empty again.

Since you are having those other symptoms as well, you can try disabling extensions (at least temporarily, just to test). To enable/disable extensions, select the Chrome Settings icon again, and then select the Extensions category on the far left hand side of the screen. If disabling all the extensions helps Chrome behave normally again, you can start re-enabling the extensions one at a time. If Chrome starts to act up again right after enabling an extension -- then you'll have found the troublesome extension.

Did you try the method of using Chrome when not signed in?

And, since browsers and Internet settings are favorite targets of malware, try running a few scans. I recommend that you try at least one independent scan, run from a "Rescue CD" (such as AVG's, Avira's, Avast's, .... there are many). The advantage of the bootable Rescue CDs is that since you are booting the computer from a read-only medium, you have a better chance of an uncompromised scan.

I'm assuming that you haven't ran into any disk-space issues, either... (hard drives are so gigantic nowadays, such troubles aren't common ... but can be, for SSD users - which generally have smaller capacities at the moment)

I'll check in again tomorrow, & see how you're doing.

Forgot to reply. One of these steps seems to have done the trick, but not sure which, I think the Downloads folder and signing out of my account and reconnecting it back to chrome. Thanks!

Glad to hear it. I happen to like Chrome - once it's going it's quick enough - nice layout, easy navigation - useful extensions - and rarely has trouble (partly because it is kept up-to-date so well) ... Enjoy!

Oh the other thing I did that probably helped was to clear my Chrome Sync data. For some reason it said hundreds of Open Tabs were open even though there were just a few. google.com[slash]settings[slash]chrome[slash]sync I think this was causing major hangups

Thanks for adding the extra detail - much appreciated. This way, anyone with a similar problem will benefit from your repair.

For those following this thread, here is a quote from the Google help pages, that describe the "Sync Reset" method.
[h=3]Stop and clear synced data (reset sync)[/h]If you want to stop your Google Account from syncing to Chrome altogether, or need to reset sync, you can "stop and clear" your synced data.
To stop and clear your synced data or reset a sync passphrase, follow these steps:

  1. Open your Google Dashboard. Make sure you are signed in to your Google Account.
  2. Click Reset sync to stop syncing and clear all of your synced data.
  3. Click OK.
Note: You only need to do this once. It will stop sync on all of your devices. Your data will still be available in Chrome on your device(s).

.... and Thanks agan m55!
