Help revert to windows 8.1

Hi,

I tried to use diskpart to convert it to mbr but it says:

Virtual Disk Service error:
The specified disk is not convertible. CDROMs and DVDs are examples of disks that are not convertable.

DISKPART >

What options do I have?

Edit: I also tried to change UEFI to Legacy Support but it didn't work.

Thanks

Hi GooonE. :smile9:

Your link says:
Zoinks! You've taken a wrong turn.
Let's split up, gang. If you're looking for an image, it's probably been deleted or may not have existed at all.
If you bought your machine from an OEM, did you try to use the reset function of your manufacturer "recovery management" program?
For example, I have Packard bell recovery management and a reset partition made by them.
If I try to just create a backup with that utility, it says it can't do it because I modified the partitions (I divided c: partition in three different partitions: c:, e:, paragon backup capsule).
The same happened when I tried to refresh and reset windows in these years.
I mean if you have modified your partitions, you could get some errors.
Hence you could set your partitions to their original state before you re-try reset-refresh-backup-reinstall.

If you have a retail license instead, you can create your windows 8.1 media (click)
If you'll do a clean install, your D: drive will/could be totally erased/deleted.

I don't get why you want to convert gpt to mbr.
If I'm not wrong, the license key is stored on the UEFI partition (in my system it is called ESP, it has got FAT32 file system and it is 300MB sized).
If you intended to start your machine and then to use the good old F8 key, you must launch this command from an elevated command prompt:
Code:
bcdedit /set bootmenupolicy legacy

Hi thanks for replying.

The images is just when you boot to installation windows 8 and you see partitions.

It couldn't install because it says my partition is GPT.

Also to mention is I format windows 10 partition but I still have OEM partitions, D Drive.

I want to convert to MBR because it does not let me install it with GPT.

I think I want to backup OEM partitions just in case something wrong...

Well I'm lost.

afaik if I restore it to OEM how do I backup OEM partitions?
it will take time .. I talked with microsoft support: first one wanted to access my computer and then she reboot my pc, other one try to help me...

AFAIK if you didn't modify any partitions (and the recovery partition is still untouched/unmodified), the recovery partition and the recovery wizard (of your manufacturer) should restore your pc like when it was new (and you can also try the windows 8/8.1 refresh function, instead of reset).

You should do backups just because something could go in the wrong direction...

I don't think it's possible to do a clean install on that machine, if you don't have a MS retail license.
Recall your partition structure is GPT/UEFi: hence if you do a clean install and if you remove the UEFI/ESP partition, you'll lose your OEM license... And the windows activation.

You should backup your UEFI/ESP partition for sure, possibly with different methods, and you should store it/them on a different and external drive/drives.

Hi,

I did system recovery and recovered D drive but like retard I removed windows 8.1 partition and created new because I thought it would work. Now I need to do system recovery again.

What methods to do to backup UEFI/ESP partitions?

There are a lot of free software:
- windows backup
- paragon backup and recovery 14 free
- AOMEI Backupper Standard 3.2
- EaseUS Todo Backup Free

You should use the sector by sector = raw = full copy for the UEFI/EFI/ESP partition.

hi,

so i removed my partitions like microsoft support told me and I can't activate windows.

I.e., did you already delete/overwrite the uefi partition?
Well, in this case you can only call MS support and request a free activation, given that they told you to remove all the partitions.

Good luck!

Hi,

Hi,

I think you are wrong. My license is works now, microsoft good job!

Drivers are working.

I didn't install Camera driver, LAN, Intel graphics driver.

So, I installed NVIDIA and I think it installed Intel graphics.
Camera I am not going to install because (swear) (swear) malwares.......

To create system backup/restore point?

If yes: How to do that?

Or to install office and then ?

Or to install windows update and then create system backup/restore point?

Help?

Well, better safe than sorry!
I'd make one or two backup of the current configuration and I'd put it/them in two different locations, then I'd install all updates and the other things and after a week, just to be sure there aren't problems, another backup.
