I found this place by accident but I'm glad I did. Although I am no longer going to pursue trying to fix the problem which led me here, I am always trying to increase my computer learning.

The first computer I "operated" was actually a terminal in our office back in 1976. We used punch cards, loaded them into a reader, called up the mainframe in another city, and when we heard the tone in the phone, put it in an acoustic coupler and waited for the print out on that green and white paper. I also took a Fortran class in college in which we programmed using those punch cards.

I have built several computers and even had one of those Celeron cpus that I sped up from 300 to 450 Mhz.

My favorite, though, was one I built which ran the BeOS. That was a fantastic OS and it was a shame it didn't catch on.

Welcome to Sysnative! Always good to hear of everyone's computing history - yours predates mine a little!

Have you heard of Haiku? It's an open-source OS inspired by and compatible with BeOS: Home | Haiku Project
