Hi vansonly :)

My name is Aura and I'll be assisting you with your issue. Follow the instructions below please.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) - Scan
Follow the instructions below to run a scan with the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) and provide a log;
  • Download the right version of SURT for your system;
    • Your version of Windows is: Windows 7 SP1 x64
  • Once downloaded, execute the installer, and go throught the installation (this process can take around 15-20 minutes);
  • On completion, a log will be created in C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log;
  • Attach this log in your next reply;
Alternatively, if these instructions are unclear for you, you can follow the tutorial below.

System Update Readiness Tool (SURT)

I ran the SURT and it sat and searched for updates for about an hour. I ended the task and started it again. As I type this reply I can see that is sitting at a 0 for CPU usage in the Task Manager. I think I will restart the laptop and try again.

SURT can take a while to complete. If it's too long, try leaving it running overnight and check back in the morning :)

Ok. I restarted and it made it to the Initializing Installation screen at least. Just sitting there chewing on that for the time being. I will leave it for now.

Thanks again for the help.

SURT returned a clean log :) Let's see if it's the same for SFC.

System File Checker (SFC)
Follow the instructions below to run a SFC scan on your system and to provide the CBS log in your next reply;
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: There's a space between "sfc" and "/scannow";
  • Once the scan is complete, enter the command below and press on Enter
    Code:
    copy %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log "%userprofile%\Desktop\cbs.txt"
  • A file called cbs.txt will have appeared on your Desktop. Upload the file on Dropbox, Google Drive or OneDrive and post the download URL for it here;
Note: Please note that the CBS.log is volatile, which means that if you don't upload it after the SFC scan is completed, it won't have the information from the scan anymore. So archive it and upload it as soon as you can.

It seems like I need to ask your permission to download this file. Is it possible to get a public download URL? :)

SFC also returned a clean log :) Try to install your Windows Updates, and if they fail, upload the two files below for me to review please.

C:\Windows\WindowsUpdate.log
C:\*Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

This is the same CBS.txt you linked me in your last post. What update are you trying to install? What's the KB number?

Download the fix below for Windows 7 and run it to reset the Windows Update components.

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/971058

Once done, try to install your updates again. If they fail, please give me the KB number of a failing update, and upload the new CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log please.

Somehow, it seems that your CBS.log ends before the installation failure in the WindowsUpdate.log, so I cannot see anything. Follow the instructions below to rename your CBS.log, then try to install your Windows Updates again. If they fail, upload the new CBS.log and WindowsUpdate.log please.

Rename CBS.log file
Follow the instructions below to rename your CBS.log file.
  • On Windows Vista & 7, click on the Windows Start Menu, then enter cmd in the search box, right-click on the cmd icon and select
    Spcusrh.png
    Run as Administrator
  • On Windows 8, drag your cursor in the bottom-left corner, and right-click on the metro menu preview, then select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • On Windows 8.1, right click on the Windows logo in the bottom-left corner and select Command Prompt (Admin);
  • Enter the command below and press on Enter;
    Code:
    ren %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log CBS_old.log
    Note: If it says that the file is actually in use, restart your computer and try the command again.
  • Once it's done, let me know;

I renamed the CBS file and ran a "Check for Updates" it ran for about 20 minutes. It came up with 47 updates. I am going to try and run the install now.

It looks like Windows Update cannot download the updates. Can you list me a few updates (their KB number) that you need to install?
