Harddrive has stopped.

Hello,

Is there someone who can help me to fix my harddive?
My new HDD is a WD40EZRZ in use since July 2016 and produced in July 2016.
I just have copied all my photos (1.9 Tb) to this disk and wanted to make another copy or backup to store this safely.

Now this 4Tb disk does not respond to anything anymore and should be formatted at first.
It was formatted and worked as a 4 Tb disk with Windows 7.
I checked it with the Image rescue program from Lexar and it respond as a 2Tb disk.

Anybody?

Are you saying you have moved this drive to a different computer that is not running W7? If so, what OS now?

Background info:
I only use 1 computer and want to work with 1 hdd.
PC with Windows 7
old hdd (number 1 Toshiba 1.5 Tb) is divided into discs L, M, R.
new hdd (number 2 WD Blue 4 Tb) and G disk containing a copy of the disks L, M, R individual subdirectories.
I wanted all my photos on 1 disc together (this covers approximately 2TB)
So I also have copied photos from my working disc
Then I emptied partitions L and R glued them together and use this as a new large M partition.
On screen I see that I still have the old three partitions, but when I use explorer, it is now one large disk/partition.
The new disc of 4 Tb is now half filled with pictures.

Now I am shocked by this horror story. There are some pictures I can not approach anymore and even a complete directory Year2012 with the underlying subdirectories are not appraochable.
Files are corrupted and can not be opened. I also read the damaged disc error.
This must have happened during copying because at the old disk have worked with these photos!

Meanwhile I hooked up WD MyBook and copied all the pictures from the Toshiba drive, which now also contains the latest photos from last week. Then I also want to copy the pictures of the WD Blue.

Questions for you:
Can I recover photos on the Toshiba drive from the old partitions? If so, how?
Can I enable the WD blue drive in a different way to view and copy the photos?

For safety reasons I want (after completion of the above problem and restoring all my photos) to make a 101 copy on another harddisk.

How are these connected? I typically install the new drive in the computer as a secondary (NOT the boot) drive, then I partition and format the new drive as needed. Then I copy files to the new drive. If the new drive is going to become a boot drive, I then I might create a image of the old and copy that image to the new. But frankly, I prefer to do a fresh install when installing new drives instead of restoring an image or backup to the new drive. This ensures any corruption or malicious code in the image is not put on the new drive. It also ensures the latest updates are installed.

It was just an addition to my system where drive 0 has a C and D partition and is my boot drive.
This works still fine.
Drive 1 had the partitions L, M, R It has now the whole drive with letter M
Drive 2 is the new WD 40EZRZ. This was formatted by my computershop so that I can use 4Tb with Win7.

Then I started to copy from every corner in my system (mostly photos and movies) to the new drive.
After this was finnished I hooked up another drive via USB and wanted to copy the entire drive 2 for safety reasons (data loss)
During this process I had to restrat the machine while there were updates in Win7.
Next mornig I wanted to continue and restarted the machine.

My heart was bouncing in the back of my throat: NO ACCES TO DRIVE It needs to be formatted before it will work.
That's what I haven't done. I stopped the machine and pulled out that malicious drive.

I don't know what is happening here but I suspect it has something to do with shifting drive letters when attaching and detaching drives. Did you manually assign any letters? Note to get all the way up to R, there would have been up to 15 drives attached. I doubt that happened all at once, though Windows might have thought so.

Can only suggest seeing if EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition and Recuva might help secure your data before it is lost. Sorry.

I have already for years a configuration with many drive letters.
When you use a multiple memory card reader you are quickly out of range. Mine had 8 slots, so it assigned 8 drive letters.
Internally 4 drives with in total 8 drive letters and another bunch of USB drives.

My old drive which had 3 partitions L. M, R. assigned manually works perfect.
The only thing I've done is copied teh files from L,M,R, to the new drive. Then changed these partitions to 1 drive with letter M.
After running Recuva, I only can find files from "old" M. No files from old L or old R are retrievable.

My new drive is Western Digital 4Tb. My computer shop formatted this one for me because "my" Win7 was not able to access more than 2Tb.
With this new drive installed in my computer I started to copy all my photos and videos from drive D, E, F, H, M, to this new one G.
The idea was that when all these files were together on one drive I will make a safety copy on a usb drive.

Unfortunately my new drive G is not accessible anymore. This means that the old files from L and R are lost. Because I can't find them any more on my old drive M (formerly L,M,R)

My question is now : What will happen with EASEUS ? Are you experienced with that? Does it overwrite my partition while repairing?

I've also used many drive letters but still have experienced problems with removable devices. One thing I do to minimize issues is manually assign "Q" and "V" to any attached optical drives.

It will not do anything without your permission and not until you specifically tell it to.
