Getaway Car Gets Struck by Lightning During Police Chase After Man Robs a Church

To all of you non-believers, fear the Wrath of God!

I don't see the lightning strike - it just looks like getting hit by an oncoming car to me. I hope the folks in the other car are okay.

Either way, I get disgusted with thieves, folks too lazy to get a job. Even more so with those who rob a church and the defenseless. Check out these scumbags in Omaha - about 10 miles from where I live. She suffered a cut face from hitting the table and a minor concussion. Fortunately, they caught the ba#$%^ds. :)

I can actually understand robbing a bank IF desperate to feed your kids or something that dire. But to sucker punch a little old lady, and in a church? They need to be taken out back and shot. Maybe we need public hangings to come back for incentive to others.

The guy who punched her said he panicked. What? There was no one else there! Did he think the little old lady was going to go ninja on him? The outside cameras saw them laughing as they ran away. He thought it was funny. :(

He's been sentenced to 10 to 12 years in prison but will probably be out in less than 5. Maybe someone who loves his grandma will take care of him behind bars. I hate to be that way, but predatory crimes on the defenseless need to stop.

It was definitely hit by another car.
Yeah, that's not in dispute. The question is, did it get hit by lightning just before the car accident? I am not so sure.

Nevertheless, while it may be hard to believe, inside a car is actually one of the safest places to be if struck by lightning. A fully enclosed metal car that is (not fiberglass or a convertible) will actually protect you. This is because of the "skin effect" - the characteristic of electricity where the electricity flows around the outer surface of the conductor. So if the occupants are sitting inside the car, not touching the metal exterior, they are safe. Airplanes are stuck 1000s of times a day with no ill-affect - typically unnoticed. Waveguides, used to transmit extreme high wattage RF energy to antennas are hollow.

My point is, no way would lightning cause a car to explode unless, maybe, gas was already spilling out of the tank when the lightning struck.
