Obviously, the post the guy "liked" was awful.

However, "liking" a FB or other post in the US should be covered under "freedom of speech" and therefore certainly not a crime nor even probable cause allowing police to obtain a search warrant like in this story.

I would not be surprised to learn that this has already happened here in the US, will continue, and get much worse.

Not quite the same, but here’s a US example of someone being arrested because they made fun of their local police department on Facebook.

In the UK we do have hatespeech laws, so you can be arrested for something you’ve said online. There have been examples I agree with, and examples I don’t.
