Hi i've been having trouble a while now I think initially it started when windoows failed to update (gives error 0x800703f1), when playing intensive games it freezes and gives BSOD.
Trying sfc /scannow I get "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation", and trying dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth I get "The configuration registry database is corrupt"

The CBS log mentions components hive?

2024-07-27 13:11:17, Info CBS Failed to load the COMPONENTS hive from 'C:\WINDOWS\System32\config\COMPONENTS' into registry key 'HKLM\COMPONENTS'. [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB]
2024-07-27 13:11:17, Info CBS Failed to load component store [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB]
2024-07-27 13:11:17, Info CBS Failed to get CSI store. [HRESULT = 0x800703f1 - ERROR_BADDB]

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

Hi and welcome to Sysnative,

I would suggest to run the following tool first: See also this thread: How to check your COMPONENTS registry hive for corruption

Step 1. Download
61f7aba7309a1-ComponentsScanner_Icon.png
ComponentsScanner and save it to your desktop.
  • Right-click ComponentsScanner.exe and select "Run as administrator", click Yes on the UAC (User Account Control) prompt which appears.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • When the following message appears: "ComponentsScanner has detected the following issues that it is able to repair automatically."
  • Press Y to perform the repair.

  • Once complete, a report will be saved to your desktop called ComponentsScanner.txt.
  • Post the logfile ComponentsScanner.txt as attachment into your next reply.

Step 2. Please follow the BSOD posting instructions and provide the requested file as attachement.

Note: I'm not an BSOD expert, but I can help you further with the remaining update issues when an BSOD expert analysed your files.

Thanks a lot, I think I have attached all the right files?
I ran ComponentsScanner first and it did some repairs and it finished with one error, but then I followed the "Windows Update Forum Posting Instructions" and ran ComponentsScanner again and that time it didn't give any errors? I still had old log file open so saved both and attached (ComponentsScanner1.txt was the first)

Hi,

Great, please run the following DISM command again and post the result. If it fails attach a new copy of the CBS log.
Code:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Ah nice thanks that worked:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>DISM /online /cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
Version: 10.0.19041.3636

Image Version: 10.0.19045.4651

[==========================100.0%==========================] The restore operation completed successfully.
The operation completed successfully.

This looks good, but:

1. This system has not received and installed any updates since January this year, but we can look at this later.
2. Looking at the *dmp files in the SysnativeFileCollectionApp are they all from January / February! And so far as I can see it could be an memory related issue.
3. So I would suggest to run MemTest, please follow the instructions below and post the result.

ubuysa said:
  1. Download Memtest86 (free), use the imageUSB.exe tool extracted from the download to make a bootable USB drive containing Memtest86 (1GB is plenty big enough). Do this on a different PC if you can, because you can't fully trust yours at the moment.
  2. Then boot that USB drive on your PC, Memtest86 will start running as soon as it boots.
  3. If no errors have been found after the four iterations of the 13 different tests that the free version does, then restart Memtest86 and do another four iterations. Even a single bit error is a failure.

Ah okay thanks again I really appreciate it
I actually don't have a USB.. it might take a few days for me to get one but I'll be back when I do..

Hi again I ran MemTest twice and it passed both times with no errors (fyi I downloaded and installed MemTest on this PC)

Hi,

Okay, then I would suggest to update this system first, if it fails attach the latest CBS logs.

Upload a copy of the CBS folder
  • Open Windows Explorer and browse to the C:\Windows\Logs folder.
  • Right-click on the CBS folder and choose Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder.
  • Now the message will appear, "Windows cannot create the Compressed (zipped) Folder here. Do you want it to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  • Click on the Yes button here.

  • Attach the file CBS.zip to your next reply. If the file is too large to attach, upload the CBS.zip file to www.wetransfer.com and post the link in your next reply.

Can you describe what you see when this BSOD occurs.

I am assuming here you mean Blue Screen of Death and not a Black Screen Of Death? Asking because I haven't seen any event or other record in your logs about a blue screen crash despite there being many unexpected shutdowns.

Hi sry for delayed response ah wierd yeah most crashes it shows the BlueSOD it gives stop code WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR but it stays frozen the % progress never goes above 0. Some other crashes my screen just freezes on whatever I was doing with audio making a glitchy repeating noise.. (does this on BSOD too)

Does that mean it's not giving full dumps should I follow step one in BSOD posting instructions and if so which kind of memory dump should I set it to? (current registry settings attached if useful)

Also if relevant I just today successfully reinstalled windows but am still getting BSOD from gaming

I would like to have a look at the health of the drives.
Please go to Download and click the blue zip button which will download a portable version of CrystalDiskInfo. Extract the zip file and run diskinfo64.exe which will ask for administrator rights, please allow it.
CrystalDiskInfo uses 3 colors for indication

  • Blue = good
  • Yellow = warning
  • Red = bad

A little below the menu you'll see drives with each a circle with a color, if any of these is NOT blue please click it.
Before making a screenshot, please do the following
- Go to function > Advanced feature > raw values, change it to 10 [DEC]
- Make sure all attributes are clearly visible
Make a screenshot of CrystalDiskInfo and post this screenshot in your next post.
