Good morning,

Been tinkering trying to finally push the free update to 10 that I had access to many years ago but didn't want to do at the time.

Attempt 1-blue screen and reverted back all safe and sound.

Did some research and some on microsoft said to a an sfc scan and then if errors attempt to repair with the sfcfix here. Found an irreparable file somewhere and I do not have the 7 install disc as a friend built this for me. So it said to come here for help. Is there a way to upload the file or should I just copy & paste the text log?

Thankfully from what I've read (assuming I understand it correctly) once this fixes and since windows tried to upgrade me it should go through without an issue. But if I'm wrong feel free to correct me.

Thanks in advance

Update: Didn't let me attach the txt file in my first post or edit it so sorry for double post. It allowed me to attach it now.

Hello and welcome,

Copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Good afternoon Peter,

I just re-ran the scan cause I didn't see a log file. Even after it still doesn't exist. There's a text document and that's it. I attached an image of what's shown after the scan completed and the folder afterward. It also doesn't allow me to access the text file to even see what it is. Or are the files shown within what you need me to make a zip of?

Thanks

Its the first file listed, called CBS. The file extension is hidden.
You can't open this file in this folder. Copy it to your desktop as I said in my previous post.

This machine hasn't been updated for a long time. We will deal with that later.

Follow the instructions below please.

WARNING! The following fix is specific to the user's system in this thread only. No one else should follow these instructions, as it could damage your system.
  • Download

Try to install KB890830 only first.
If successful, install the second Windows Update listed, "2019-09 Security Monthly..."

Copy the file C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\cbs.log to your desktop.
Zip the copied file and attach the zipped cbs.log to your next reply.

Please provide the file itself, a shortcut is not useful.
