Hi, I could use expert help with 1803 update. I have run dism, sfc and sfcfix without errors. Still getting the error in the title.

Title error comes with windows update. I'll get same error with windows update assistant. I have uninstalled avira and malwarebytes. This is a multiboot computer with uefi boot, I have changed windows boot loader as primary.

Attached cbs and setuperr logs.

Hello there!

Please zip and attach C:\$Windows.~bt\Sources\Panther\SetupAct.log

Try creating USB installation media with the media creation tool here: Download Windows 10

Run setup from the flash drive and choose 'not right now' for the check for updates. Be sure to select the option to keep your files, settings, and apps.

Sorry, left that out from the opening, Have tried also that, with similar results. Installation from media ends up to "We can't tell if your PC has enough space to continue installing Windows 10". I have 60 gigs on c drive, more on others.

I have also tried win update troubleshooter and clearing softwaredistribution and those temporary installation directories from the root.

Temporarily create a new UEFI boot partition for the Windows boot loader, then see if that error message still appears.

I did try to do that, but I couldn't quickly figure out how to use it, instead I used minitool part wizard to enlarge current efi partition from 100 to 400mb. Still getting Error 0x80070005, at least with update assistant.

Yes I'm able to mount and browse it. I just didn't figure out how to change the efi partition to the new one. I have played a bit with efi, I have normally refind boot manager as my primary boot. But I have changed the default for windows boot manager for now. Shouldn't enlarging the old one do the trick also?

Just tried to install 1803 through windows update, nothing changed there either, same error.

Rebuilding the EFI partition may leave Windows unable to boot - are you comfortable enough with your other OS to be able to restore the bootloader?

Instructions copied from here: https://www.dell.com/support/articl...windows-7-8-81-and-10-on-your-dell-pc?lang=en

Rebuild EFI Boot Partition

Click the Start button, then choose the power icon.
Hold SHIFT and click Restart.

Choose Troubleshoot.

Select Command Prompt from the Advanced Options tab in the Troubleshoot screen :

Type and run the command :

diskpart

Type and run the command :

sel disk 0

Type and run the command :

list vol

Verify that the EFI partition (EPS) is using the FAT32 file system and assign a drive letter to it (Assign a letter that isn't already in use.):

Type and run the command :

sel vol <number of volume>

Type and run the command :

assign letter=<drive letter>:

Type and run the command :

exit

In order to repair the boot record :

Type and run the command :

cd /d <drive letter>:\EFI\Microsoft\Boot\

Type and run the command :

bootrec /FixBoot

Rebuild the BCD store

First run the command below to backup the old BCD :

ren BCD BCD.old

Now recreate it using this command :

bcdboot c:\Windows /l en-us /s <boot letter>: All

Note that the drive letter (C) may be different in your boot environment. Make sure you know which drive letters correspond to your boot, windows, etc. volumes.

Well that was weird. bootrec /FixBoot -> The system cannot find the file specified. Also bootrec /scanos didn't find anything. I guess I'll have to figure that one out..
Rebuilding bcd worked and computer did still boot.

I can't continue anymore tonight, working day tomorrow.. More tomorrow?

Very unusual... are you certain it's booting using EFI and not MBR?

I'll be out of town for the weekend, but I'll reply asap.

well, it's a GPT disk.. so I think it's not possible to boot mbr.. And the thing responded to efi settings in uefi.
